We arrived to find that a toilet was loose from the floor and the grill was broken. On the second day, I woke up with a splitting headache, and my allergies were going nuts. We had to clean the house, my wife purchased a vacuum cleaner, and we emptied it several times. We had to call back for the toilet repair because it started leaking. Then we discovered the bedroom carpets were wet in areas, and the source of the mold and mildew smell was coming from leaking AC units. Service personnel came out three times for this issue, and we had fans installed in two bedrooms to try to dry the carpets. At first we were told the pics were probably taken awhile ago, before vegetation grew. Then that in certain “seasons” there is more growth. I looked through hundreds of places but the view pictured here is what sold it. They did compensate some financially but still disappointing. The road on which the cabin is located is in need of repair vs. the main road you pull off from. The parking for the home is NOT at the home, but up a steep hill next to the home. If you are elderly or have issues walking up a hill, this is NOT a good location for you. CLEANLINESS: Home was very clean. Furniture in good condition. One of the bedcovers in one of the rooms that was in the closet (for an extra blanket) was extremely dirty. AMENITIES: There are pots and pans, dishes, utensils. The fridge shows a red light for the filter indicating it needs to be replaced. There were no BASIC cooking necessities like salt and pepper. There were two coffee pots provided: a classic style pot and a Keurig. However, there was NO coffee. By the time we checked in at 4 PM, it was too late (and honestly, too far) for us to drive all the way back to Pigeon Forge or Gatlinburg to go buy coffee. So, our first morning was not ideal ... it would have been great to have a nice cup of coffee on the porch that first morning. It's insane that there is not at least a day's worth of coffee provided for your first day. I am still astounded that for more than $400 per night, there was not any coffee provided. OVERALL: Honestly, it was overpriced for the overall value of the property. Pretty views, but the parking and the lack of coffee for what we paid was off putting. There are massive cabins all over this road/area, but you can see Anakeesta, the Skybridge, and Ober Mountain from the deck, plus sunrises and sunsets. Very cool. We were literally in the clouds a few times. Location was convenient to get to PF and both sides of Gburg without having to drive through the gburg strip, and less than 10 minutes to the Park. Cabin was clean and I thought very nice. We had a bear on the upper deck twice that got into the grill grease trap, and one even got into our car and rummaged around in there and at the neighboring cabin, so lock your doors! Some better seating on the top deck would have been great to enjoy the warm afternoon sun. Our 5 year old LOVED the arcade, as did I, playing some arcade greats from my childhood with my son. I would happily recommend this cabin to anyone. Beds were all firm but really comfy. We enjoyed a few days and hikes in the park (clingman's dome for a sunrise, cades cove at dawn, chimney tops hike), went offroading at Wildside (amazing time), visited the very impressive aquarium, and rode several mountain coasters (Goats on the Roof was the most intense/best we thought). Great vacation, great cabin. Ate on the rooftop at Loco Burro (food was poor, prices were terrible). Pizzas and beers were great at Smoky Mtn Brewery and Gatlinburg Brewing, Local Goat in PF was also pretty good and priced reasonably. Also explored Townsend and stopped at Mountain Brothers brewing, which had a couple that we liked. Skyland Ranch was pretty disappointing and boring, and expensive. Wild stallion coaster was slow and boring. Hot tub was warm and clean and we used it every night." On cloudy days you could see the clouds touching the mountains and on clear days could see a lot of the mountain range. Even saw a mama bear with her three cubs walk down the street checking cars and garbage for food. Keep your vehicles locked and have all food stored in the cabin. The only negative comment I could make is house keeping left a bunch of wet towels in the washing machine. I called house keeping and they said they would come by and pick them up. I rewashed the towels, dried and folded them and no one came to get them the 5 days I was there. Also the gas fire pit was broken the entire time but I was notified before hand. However, I would recommend updating pictures on the elk springs website, as the view has changed tremendously. During our stay, we also weren’t able to park in the allotted spot for the property as there is a new build going up - so we had to park in the tri-star lodge drive way. You should know there is termite dust on the logs, ash on the hearth, dust build up on the lamp shade in upstairs bedroom, broken fridge door, a cracked wine glass, the top drawer in dishwasher is unhinged and this house is dirty!! I was told the house was ready at 3:00 to hear a few hours prior they it was moved to 5:00. Overall poor experience with this company. By the way, the water was turned off for about an hour at night! As someone who rents out a beach house on the Jersey shore I am disgusted by the way this house presents and the price you charged! I am sure others will need to know about this. This cabin was no exception. It's located in a beautiful area not far from Gatlinburg. Although, there is a cabin directly across from it and the downside to that is this cabin does not have any curtains/blinds in the main living area. The only other issue is the parking is a tad difficult. There's a gravel area to park, but it's a little walk to the cabin. There's also a tight space directly in front, but it's very difficult to get turned around. We had a couple maintenance issues with the fire table but those were handled promptly. We have stayed in the Smoky mountain area for many years and have never seen any bear at a cabin during our stay until now. So, if you're looking for a little excitement this is the cabin for you! We stay in Gatlinburg 2x per year Fall/Winter,We started using Elk Springs Resort Last year and absolutely loved them because their prices and cleanliness and they stay in contact w/you from start to finish! This particular rental LOCATION was our worse yet. I actually blame myself partially because I normally do my "Location Homework" It was our first time staying on the West Side (Above Welcome Center) and it's also the main location where the 2016 fires were. I didn't even put That to thought when I picked this particular rental. I was rushed in this Winters Trip so when I was emailed my choices I needed to pick one ASAP because it was getting close to crunch time, lol. I chose the $1400 one for 3 nights which was the cheapest one and w/my 10% disc made it affordable. And pics of cabin were Nice. It was the first "Round" Cabin we'd ever stayed in. Unfortunately the previous Reviews weren't 100% " HONEST" I took my own pics for proof. There's really no good views due to the THOUSANDS of cabin's being built. Ober Mtn was so ugly in Day/Night due to all the construction. And the area and road our cabin was on there's Construction gliyom from 7:30am-4:30pm at bottom of hill next door and 3 behind Cabin. It was construction everywhere and everywhere you look is cabin's being built. In 30yrs of coming here we've never seen it like THIS. And why we normally stay on the East Side of Gatlinburg (opposite side of here) Cabin itself is VERY NICE INSIDE and deserves to be in a Better Location. In fact we LOVED the Cabin itself.But the pic's on "outside" were a bit misleading. And parking is limited here. We had to park in a empty lot away from Cabin. Overall it was a nice time but it was not what we expected. For one, the pictures on Elk Springs Resort page gives the impression that this cabin is a little more remote than it actually is. There is another cabin directly across the street (glorified driveway) that obstructs the best view. There is also a lot more houses and even more being built that if you are expecting a remote cabin at the top of the mountain it will be slightly disappointing. The fire table on the lower deck would not ignite for us but we did utilize the hot tub. It would have been nice if we could have made it a little warmer than 104 degrees though. The cabin itself is beautiful and unique. We were all comfortable for our long weekend. The kitchen was stocked with what we needed. The bathrooms were nice, although the lower level bathroom had a strong sulfar like odor for the majority of the trip. The lower level shower is also not accomadating if you are over 5'6" as the shower head is about that high up the wall. Overall though, the cabin was very nice and comfortable. The cabin is about 15 minutes from the main drag of things in Gatlinburg. We took it slow coming down the mountain and managed the windy roads just fine. Traffic on the main drag in town is horrible, I recommend looking up alterate routes or backroads if possible. We did the Ober Gatlinburg aerial tram which was fun. The guide on the way up chatted the whole time and gave lots of tidbits of information and history of the area. Once at the top of the mountain we did the alpine slide, the mountain coaster and just walked around checking out the views. It was super pretty. We ate at Big Daddy's Pizza-my mom and sisters highly recommend The Big Dill pizza, it was so good they had to get it again on the last night. The views are great and the cabin was easy to find with the GPS, but the road up to the cabin from the main road is very narrow, curvy, and some parts of it I felt that it was not safe. I did not realize from the pictures that this cabin is so high up and my husband was very anxious about it as he is scared of heights. It also gave my older child motion sickness in the back seat. We decided to pick up some groceries in town since we'd be staying a week, and on the way to the cabin, I received a text at 3:06pm that our check in would be delayed until about 4:15. We sat in our car outside the cabin until then with the a/c running to keep our food as cold as we could. No sign of anyone even cleaning the cabin. I called Elk Springs at 4:20 to ask what was going on and if we could at least put our food inside. I was on hold for at least 15 minutes, during which time -- *surprise!* -- here comes the cleaning crew. Didn't get in to the cabin until 5:30pm, a whole two and a half hours after our scheduled check in. Our groceries (including dairy products) were getting warm in our car for entirely too long. There were some dead bugs around the perimeter of the cabin that I'm sure the crew didn't have time to vacuum up since they were so late. Really disappointed with the check in experience. The cabin is smaller than it looks in the photos and the beds were really uncomfortable, but the views were pretty nice. Convenient distance to downtown Gatlinburg. Be aware that there are active bears in this area. We had the most memorable vacation! I loved everything about the cabin. It's very unique and I wanted our family's first time visiting TN to be memorable. The location was perfect. We loved sight seeing during the day but after a long day it was great to be able to relax in the evenings. I would definitely recommend this property. It was clean and the the Elk Springs resort staff sent text messages making it very easy for us to check in and out. We will definitely use this rental company for a future stay. The Home is a Little small for 6 people and seating is only for 4 people in the kitchen and by the fair. Hot tub is only for 4 people, as well. The front porch which is lovely only has two rocking chairs so we always had to rotate in and out instead of sitting all together. The hot tub is also small and no privacy from the street and nearby cabin (needs bushes or trees).
