Description |
Rustic Lakeside Cottage with deck & dock on the water.
***When emailing for availability (after checking calendar and rates are listed below), please include how many adults would be staying for the week (no undeclared guests are allowed) as well as how many children and include their ages.***
**SMALL pets are negotiable for a $150 fee so please include details of pet in your email inquiry such as breed, weight, etc.**
The cottage is on Lake Armington in Piermont, NH in the foothills of the White Mountains. Lake Armington is off Rte 25C, 20 minutes east of Interstate 91 and 30 minutes off Interstate 93. Hanover, Lebanon, Woodstock and Plymouth are all a short drive away and offer a variety of quaint shops, fine dining and entertainment. Camp Walt Whitman is also located on Lake Armington and if you want to climb Piermont Mountain directly across the lake, you may park at the Camp because the trail starts there. It is considered an intermediate level but if you're not a seasoned hiker, it can be tough. At least it was for members of my family - lol! The Appalachian trail runs not far behind the property (about a 5 minute drive and can access it near the Greenhouse Restaurant, right on Rt 25C/Lake Tarleton Road). The Kancamangus Highway is 40 miles away.
Watch the sun set behind Piermont Mountain from a full length deck with child safe railing and gates to stairs. Take 3 steps down to a 8 ft wide dock. Lake Armington is a small lake (1.3 miles long and .3 miles wide covering 152 acres) well suited for family activities such as swimming and boating. Please note that we do not have a beach so you access the lake from our dock. The bottom of the lake is very soft and silty so please be aware of that if that bothers you. However, it is pretty firm in the area in front of the dock where our children like to jump off and do cannon balls.
Excellent fishing for Small Mouth Bass, Rainbow Trout, Perch, Pickeral and Horn Pout. Fishing licenses available locally. Please visit wildlife.state.nh.us to find locations.
Includes a 12 ft Jon Rowboat (2 seats) as well as a single person kayak with required life preservers as well as a second smaller kayak for children (150 lb weight limit). Please feel free to bring your own kayak or paddle board but no motorized boats.
Lake Armington is free of invasive exotic weeds when many area lakes are not so it is VERY important to check your kayak or paddleboard before placing it in the water here.
Please note that there is no air conditioner in the cabin but there are a couple of small fans. Generally the nights get cool on the lake and it's not needed but please feel free to bring your own personal fan if you are concerned.

You are right on the water with a view of Piermont Mountain across the lake.
The Cottage has two small bedrooms. One has a queen sized bed with a small dresser and very small open closet and the other has two sets of bunk beds with twin size mattresses. There is a small dresser in this room as well but no closet. Please bring your own linens/sheets/towels but blankets are provided.
The bathroom has a sink and shower stall (no tub).
There is a small 4 burner electric stove, good sized 17 cubic inch refrigerator w/freezer, microwave, coffee maker, and toaster.
Pots, pans, dishes, glassware and utensils are included.
The household water in the cottage comes from the lake which is clean (in the top 2% of NH lakes) and fine for washing dishes and brushing your teeth but you will need to bring drinking water.
CD player & radio with limited reception. There is a Smart TV and DVD player above the fireplace so bring your favorite movies (not BlueRay). No cable or TV reception but we do have WiFi.
There is a dining porch with screened windows. The windows are hinged at the top and can be hooked in the up position or closed position. Gas fireplace in living room.
Deck built in 2011. 10 x 20 ft pressure treated deck w/child safe rails, 8 ft wide dock with 12 ft rowboat, single person kayak with required life preservers as well as a second smaller kayak for children (150 lb weight limit).
Picnic table, gas grill and fire pit in rear of the cottage.
There is a phone which can make local calls (and accept incoming calls). Please purchase a calling card for any long distance calls outside the 603 area code.
Please note there is very limited cell phone reception and you may need to drive down the mountain a few miles before being able to make calls or send/receive texts (although you can probably text since we have Wifi and Facetiming is not a problem from the cottage as well).

This is less than a 10 minute drive from our cottage and is a hidden gem that we just recently discovered. Since we do not have a beach or sand in front of our cottage, this is a nice, quiet place to bring your children that may want to build a sandcastle and the roped off swimming area is very shallow and sandy for the kids to stand in. It is free and there are no lifeguards. No pets are allowed and you must carry out any trash that you bring. The narrow dirt and partially woodchip covered path down to the beach is not visible from the main road but park in front of the red barn (picture of barn is included as well as picture of the beach area at the end of all the cottage and mountain pics on this site) and follow the signs on where to walk.*

"Spent a wonderful and peaceful week at this property. Nice rustic charm, large deck and pier, with a beautiful view. Highly recommend - will return next season!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!"
Aug 22, 2020 - Stacy Hollingsworth
"My sister and I recently returned from a wonderful week at this cottage. It was everything described and more. The lake is so peaceful. We spent our days having our meals on the porch over looking the lake and kayaking and just floating around. It was a great week with wonderful weather. We had everything we needed at the cottage. Can't wait to go back."
Aug 14, 2017 - Linda B
"Stayed in this cabin late July 2013, two adults and three kids. It was the best vacation we ever had. Perfect for family fun. And the whole area was friendly and fun. boating and fishing right out the door. The kids had a blast. I recommend taking a day and going to Clarks Trading Post if you have young kids, or Canobie Lake Park was a really nice amusement park thats within driving from the cabin. This was our first time renting a lakehouse, and I finally know what a vacation is supposed to be like. It was the most relaxing week of our lives, and I look forward to being a repeat renter. Oh, there's no ac, but there are fans, and even in the heat of late july, the cabin stays cool with the lake right out the door."
Sep 18, 2013 - ron perry
"LOVED THIS PLACE!! It is a quiet and peaceful lake, and perfect for a relaxing getaway! The cabin while very rustic was exactly what we needed and wanted! I couldn't believe how low the rental price was either. The lake was very calm and shallow and perfect for my children ages 4 and 6, while mommy and daddy enjoyed a drink on the dock! Some spots were a little '" mucky" but get yourself a pair of cheap water shoes and problem solved! The views of the mountain and sunset were breathtaking!!! We will DEFINITELY be going back!"
Feb 19, 2011 - jen s
"Quiet and relaxing. Cabin is VERY rustic. Lake bottom is very mucky and squishy to step. Kids did not like that."
Dec 22, 2010 - Jessica A
"We really liked this cabin. The lake is very peaceful since there are not alot of houses on it and very few motor boats. The sound of loons welcomed us on arrival and we could watch them fish from the porch. Also red squirrels and chipmunks are around and will come up on the porch to get peanuts. Lake Armington is shallow with a bit of muck on the bottom but the water is crystal clear and clean. We were in the water every day. There are things to do within a short drive including Franconia Notch. If you are looking for a nice relaxing time on the lake, you can do no better. We would definitely repeat."
Aug 27, 2010 - Andy Little
"Spent a week in this cabin August 2007- best vacation we ever had. Very relaxing!"
