The home was in good shape and clean, except for the jets in the tubs, which were really moldy visually on the outside and esp when you run the jets, so you would have to run the water, run the jets, let them clear and then drain the water, then refill. They could use a routine cleaning. The vacation rental management staff were very helpful and were available via text which was great. The water pressure in the showers was horrible. Very hard to wash off. They are the waterfall showers, but very little pressure. The pool table was great fun for the kids, but the pockets have holes in them so the balls will fall out and sound like they are coming through the ceiling. Locations was nice in the Arts and Crafts district so it was nice to be off the bustle of the strip. The location and layout worked perfect for our family. With two older kids, everyone got their own floor so that was cool. Would also work very well for two families with the kids sharing the bunk bed. We stayed in early October and the leaves had not fallen yet so the view was of trees. I think next time I’d pick a cabin a bit higher up for a clearer mountain view. A couple of downsides. The theatre only allows you to play a DVD or hook up via HDMI. No cable/streaming TV and no gaming systems. So be aware if you plan to use that. Also, the TV in the main living room is very small. And I’m not sure if it was just me but the mattress in the main floor bed was not great. I felt like these things would be reasonable upgrades to take the cabin from great to amazing." It didn’t work the first night because a breaker popped- there are 2 breakers that control the hot tub it would have been nice to get it fixed that night but maintenance was short handed and couldn’t tell us where the 2bd breaker box was. Our only complaint is the front door lock doesn’t work right - it’s a typical Schlage 4 PIN lock but it takes somewhere between 30 seconds and a minute to engage the lock after it accepts the code and makes the locking sound. Maintenance said this worked just fine (they only came while we were gone) but there are not instructions to let you know to wait this long to be sure it locked so it took us dozens of attempts and 2 calls to maintenance to let them know it wouldn’t lock like a normal key code Schlage. Access to the entrance is convenient if you have people traveling with you that can't walk up stairs easily. No heater to reach downstairs and it was cold cold! We has snow that day and it was cold! They need to obtain with space heaters if cabin does not warm all the way to the bottom! Upstairs master Bedroom/Bathroom- Bathroom sink does not drain you need to shut off faucet so it doesnt overflow and wait for it to drain. You could hear every word every laugh every step from the room downstairs and they could hear YOU! So it was not a master bedroom we could not have a conversation or private time without someone listening even whispering. My husband said they used only one layer of wood to cover the floor they didnt even use another layer that is why you could hear all the squaks in the WORLD and even downstairs could hear you. 4. Beds downstairs- Beds squeak sooo bad you move and you wake up your partner. 5. Bathroom Jacuzzi's both of the did not work but most of everything no water to fill them up! And also dirty to the max the inside where not washed properly we ended up not using them! Will not be staying again in that cabin hopefully they do updates to these cabins." We were disappointed upon our arrival to find the cabin was not clean to our standards. The outside was covered in dirt, dust and dead bugs. All of the rocking chairs had a thick layer of dust on them and needed wiped down before we could sit on them. The grill was in the corner of the deck and the floor around it was covered in grease stains. Inside, we had a similar experience. Surface cleaning was done but the entire cabin needed a thorough deep cleaning. There were dead bugs in all windowsills and a layer of dust on anything that wasn't commonly touched. The living room furniture was worn and past its prime. The bedrooms were worse. Each bed had a wooden box for the box springs and mattress that was years past needing replaced. There were no hangers in the closet for our clothes. The kitchen was furnished with barely enough dishes to actually cook. There was one roll of toilet paper per bathroom and a roll of paper towels, "a starter pack" as we were told. There was no salt/pepper or any sort of spices. The website boasts a theater room with theater seating. Technically I guess you can call it that, but they are just hard plastic, extremely uncomfortable chairs. We did not use the theater room. We rented a cabin that was listed as "luxury". This definitely was not luxury. It was sufficient and utilitarian for our needs but disappointing for our family. We have stayed in other rental cabins in the area, and they provided a much more inviting and pleasant experience. We will definitely return to the Smokey Mountains. It is such a beautiful area. We will steer clear of Elk Springs cabin rentals. We felt like the management company overdid it with warning signs hung up everywhere. It definitely was not we and I commented that it would be much nicer to simply put everything in a binder and get rid of the tacky signs taped up around the cabin. We usually stay at Oak Haven Resort in Sevierville but due to limited availability, we chose to stay at Elk Springs Resort for the first time. The first night staying in our cabin (Cherokee Charm), there was a plumbing issue where one of the pipes was leaking from the upstairs jacuzzi tub into the ceiling of the main level bathroom where there were several light fixtures. I understand things like this happen, but I was understandably concerned for the safety of my family so I called to report the issue. After waiting for 30 minutes, an annoyed maintenance technician slumped out of his truck and complained about having to do his job the whole time he was there. After spending less than 15 minutes “fixing” the leak, he assured us it was safe. There were no tests done or explanations given as to what he had done, so I called back to the main office. We had several inches of snow fall during the first night of our stay. They came out and removed the snow from the walkway to the cabin. In addition they promptly responded and resolved a problem we had with the dishwasher. Booking the cabin was a fairly simple and straight forward process. This has not always been our experience with other rental companies. Negative - The lack of shades/curtains on the windows resulted in a lack of privacy in several areas including one sleeping area where the sleeper sofa was located.Temperatures in the cabin were difficult to regulate with the lower areas being too cold and the upper areas being too hot. The king size beds were too large for the rooms where they were located. In one case you had to step into the closet to get in and out of one side of the bed. In the upper area the ceiling sloped over one side of the bed. You had to stoop down and walk sideways to get in this side of the bed because of the lack of room and to avoid hitting your head on the ceiling. The Home Theater System was somewhat of a disappointment. The description on the webpage states that "Digital cable and FREE wireless internet are included in the Home Theater Room". In reality you could only use the home theater to watch DVD's and not to stream movies nor watch cable TV. We do plan on renting from Elk Springs Resort when we come to Gatlinburg next year because of the excellent customer service that we experienced. However because of the negatives noted above we will not be renting the Cherokee Charm cabin and will be looking to stay in a different cabin. The downstairs fold out couch frame is bent and unusable as we wanted to put a 6 year old on it but they were falling in the top and I was scared of all the metal that was exposed around the flimsy mattress. We never attempted the hot tub as I was discouraged with the amenities being unusable by days 3-5 so we stayed on the go. On the second night I emailed the rental and told them the problems and between the rest of our stay and now we've never heard back from them. You can't plug any other device up to it, including flash drives. Also, you can hear every single little noise anywhere in the house. Especially the top two floors it's crazy how well you can hear everything. Which makes the next problem worse. The main floor shower randomly drips heavily, even at night. ..you'll hear it. The upstairs shower we could never get completely hot. Even trying first thing in the morning before anyone had used any water didn't help. The whirlpool bathtubs on main and top floors both had issues as well. When you filled the tub and turn on the jets this black debris and crud came shooting out of them. I contact office to report it and maintenance came out while we were gone and said they fixed it. Came back refilled tubs, tried again. Same thing. They didn't fix anything. My husband and I filled tubs with cold water, ran jets and drained... Doing this process like 5 or 6 times trying to clear it out where this crud wasn't shooting out. It never cleared. Was awful and nasty looking. By the time it was over the bathroom in the basement with a stand up shower was the only fit one lol. ...quite disappointed especially for the money we paid for it. Oh! It is clean, in a great location with great views of the mountains from multiple areas. When compared to other cabins I saw in the area, nothing compared to the location, privacy or appearance. Here are the only things that keep me from giving it 5 stars: 1) bad water pressure - the water would stop running completely for about 30 seconds every 2-3 minutes. Maintanence was unable to fix this. 2) Home Theater Room outdated - I was told it had a blu-ray player, but it was DVD only; no Netflix/streaming service and no cable or antenna for TV. It also has different chairs than pictured, which seats 8 but are not comfortble. 3) Overall space - it "can" sleep 10 people, but it's at the cost of comfort. To do this, you have to convert a family/game room into a bedroom. The room is located on the bottom level with no privacy, no door, and no curtains on the windows. You walk through this room to get to the 3rd bunk-bed room the home theater, sauna, and 3rd bathroom. Overall - this is a nice cabin, but I'd suggest that you book it for no more than 6-8 people, or at least knowing that you only have 3 private bedrooms. The next day, I checked the connections and someone had the Video out from the DVD in the wrong port. Worked like a charm after that.. but didn’t have time to watch another movie. We had people out to fix the furnace within a couple of hours. They were very responsive, very professional. They got the furnace working and we had an excellent vacation. The cabin we orignally reserved was not on Elk Springs property and did not meet our expectations when we checked in. I called the Elk Springs Resort office and explained the situation and asked if they had another cabin available that we could move to. Within a matter of minutes they changed our reservation to Cherokee Charm on the actual Elk Springs Resort property. The resort is very nice and most of the cabins have landscaped yards. We originally reserved a 2 bedroom cabin but Cherokee Charm has 3 bedrooms plus a theatre room. It is 3 levels with a bedroom and bath on each level along with decks and rocking chairs on 2 levels. The cabin is extremely comfortable but we spent a lot of time on the main deck enjoying the shade of the trees, the mountain air and the chirping of the birds.
