The Bedroom has a King Sized Bed & ocean views! There is a brand new Wall AC Unit in the Living Room & the Bedroom as of July 2024! The Bathroom has a brand new Walk in Shower!
The Kona Makai complex is a beautifully maintained & highly sought after Ocean Front Complex located on famous Alii Drive, just 1.3 miles from Kona town. This wonderful complex features and includes beautifully manicured tropical grounds, ocean front pool and spa, sunny lounge area, two work out rooms, eating area w/ gas BBQ’s, tennis courts, ping pong table, ample parking, and is gated during the night for security.

* Starting July 22nd Kona Makai will be starting the exterior painting project on Building 4. Currently they are estimating between 1.5 - 2 Months to complete each building for this work. Their current order for the painting of the buildings mentioned below with the possible affected dates. Building 4 7/22 - 9-22 Building 5 9/22 - 11/22 Building 3 11/22 - 1/22
The painting and spalling contractor has agreed to take a break from work for Ironman and the Christmas holidays. Work will stop from October 21st-29th for Ironman. Work will stop from December 23rd- January 3rd for the Holidays All dates are subject to change and has no say or control in if dates are changed. Dates are given by the complex's hired painting vendor. The mentioned work will be affecting access to units at possible given times between the work being done on the building. Kona Makai will be sending notices of more specific dates that access will be affected between work hours. We unfortunately cannot provide any given dates for this. Other areas such as lanai access will be affected during times as well. Furthermore the AC will also not be allowed during specific times/dates when the work is going on. Noise and obstructed views are also to be expected between the dates mentioned. The contractor plans on beginning spalling repairs on building 2 on September 9th , 2024 at 8:00 am. They plan to set up a scaffold at the oceanside end of the building and they will begin work on the column supporting landings in the stairwell. As they proceed, they will be working on leading edges of lanais on both sides of the building, windowsills, walls, and stairs throughout the building. When building 2 is complete they plan on moving to building 1 and then building 6.

CANCELLATION POLICY: Cancellations made ninety (90) days or more prior to arrival shall not be responsible for the final balance of the reservation. The $200 deposit made at the time of booking is non refundable after the booking is made. Cancellations of less than ninety (90) days prior to arrival shall forfeit the entire rent and excise tax (less cleaning fees) unless we are able to re-rent the property. Refunds on any forfeiture will be issued the dollar value the unit is re-rented for during the same dates as the canceled reservation. There is no refund for early departure or no shows.

"Wonderful stay
We loved the unit’s location with ocean view and privacy. The unit was very clean and the updated kitchen and bath were well done. There was an area above the fridge that was left incomplete . Furniture, carpet and drapes were a bit dated but overall the unit had everything we needed. We really enjoyed our stay and definitely will stay there again. Again the privacy with foliage between our deck and pool area was the best. O"

"Nice condo with a beautiful view!!
This was our fourth stay at Kona Makai (different condos each time) 1-103 was lovely and clean when we arrived. The lanai looks out over the pool which was quiet and had a lovely view of the ocean. The kitchen has been updated and everything works well. We would stay here again! For future renters, know that this is an older but well maintained condo complex. There are a lot of rules posted everywhere, most of them make sense to give everyone a nice stay- for example, no phone calls on the lanai. This particular condo has been updated recently. The kitchen is stocked only with a few inexpensive basics- not meant for a lot of cooking. There are two box A/C units. The one in the living room works well but the bedroom unit is very old and doesn’t really cool the room. The furniture is decent and the mattress wasn’t new ok. The complex has a nice family and friendly feel. It’s about a mile walk to town which we enjoyed. "

"Another great stay at Kona Maki
We were very pleased with our stay at Kona Makai. This was our 3rd stay at this complex and first in unit 1-103. We liked the location of this unit which had a great view and had a nicely updated kitchen and bathroom. It could use some update knives and cookware, but we were able to make do just fine with what was there. As usual the beautifully landscape grounds and ocean front location of Kona Maki make this an ideal spot for exploring the greater Kona area. "

"Lovely Condo, Wonderful Property Management, and Awesome Views!
We thoroughly enjoyed our 40th wedding anniversary trip to Kona Makai 1-103 on the Big Island. Truly, the owners have done a marvelous job renovating the unit. We cooked in the unit every day and ate on the beautiful lanai as we listened to the soothing waves. The unit was clean and the bed was super comfortable. The AC units in both the living room and bedroom kept the place cool in the heat of the day. You can trust Knutson & Associates with your vacation needs. They provided stellar customer service when my wife had questions about one of the new appliances. The property was better than we expected, and we would definitely recommend this unit. Some recommendations: Hawaii Forest and Trail Maunakea Summit & Stars, Seaquest Premium Morning Snorkel, Hilo Farmers' Market, 808 Grindz, and Tuk Tuk Thai Food Truck. "

"Great View doesn't makeup for the poor condition of the unit
Needed to be remodeled 25 yrs ago. Everything, and I mean everything is old, dingy, dirty, rusty, stained or just falling apart. Old lumpy twin mattresses connected together pretending to be a king bed well good luck for a good night’s sleep. Everything in this unit is poor quality. Old furniture and all housewares looked like they came from thrift shops and garage sales. Owner hasn't spent a nickel he wasn't forced to. Stove replaced-too unsafe to operate, dishwasher died, not replaced, plumbing dreadful with leaky pipes-bathroom smells like a urinal on occasions from upper floors, occasional flooding in kitchen, bathtub doesn't drain well and sewer fly infestations. Filthy stained carpet. Property manager was excellent though; when the bath tub wouldn’t drain, bringing new towels (there was only 2), a new microwave when it died and finally replacing refrigerator door shelves that were duct taped on. But just lipstick on a pig."
