Hanalei Colony Resort K4 is a cute and intimate retreat in an off-the-beaten-path location on Kauai's far North Shore, perfect for romantic getaways and escaping the crowds! The sunny and cheerful condo has two bedrooms, with the option to use the second bedroom as a work space or kids bedroom, a fully equipped kitchen, and an open living and dining area that gets tons of natural light in addition to the killer ocean views. There's also a large, shady lanai with seating for 2 to enjoy the sights and sounds of the Pacific. Please note that the bedrooms are separated from the main living space via sliding shoji screens; while the screens offer visual privacy, they are by no means soundproof.
The amenities at Hanalei Colony Resort make this the perfect spot for a slow-paced, laidback vacation. Walk just a few steps and you're right on a warm, sandy beach away from any crowds! Or, spend a day by the pool and hot tub, lounging in the sun and grilling in the outdoor kitchen. If you need to truly unwind and pamper yourself, the Hanalei Day Spa is just across the parking lot and offers some incredible services (can you say beachside couple's massage?). You'll also find the Opakapaka grill & bar on site for some tasty seaside bites, as well as the Na Pali Art Gallery & Coffee Shop where you can peruse some beautiful art while enjoying a morning brew. Additionally, there is an on site coin-operated laundry room, so be sure to bring some quarters! (the front office can usually make change if you don't have any)
For those of us that like to get out and about, Hanalei Colony Resort K4 is still conveniently close to many main attractions. Take a quick 15 minute drive and you're in the heart of Hanalei town, with all its charming boutiques, restaurants, and cafes. Grab a bite to eat or a shave ice before heading to the iconic beaches of Hanalei Bay for the day. Tunnels Beach, perfect for snorkeling, is only 3 minutes away driving, or 20 minutes on foot if you prefer to walk. Ha'ena Beach is just another 3 minutes down the road, and is an absolute hidden gem with pristine waters and some of the best sunsets in the world. You're also just 10 minutes away from the Limahuli Garden & Preserve, which offers an introduction into native Hawaiian culture and its ties to the natural landscape against a backdrop of dramatic mountains and the Pacific Ocean. For any basic grocery needs, as well as delicious sandwiches, acai bowls, coffee, and shave ice, head 3 minutes down the road to the Wainiha Country Market. You'll also find a lovely selection of local goodies you won't be able to resist.
Please note that Hanalei Colony Resort was built in simpler times in a more remote location. The resort was designed with the untouched environment as the main draw, and does not offer all the luxuries of modern resorts. There is no dishwasher and no TV in the unit (although there is Wi-Fi), and it takes longer to access other parts of the island. Drive time to Princeville and Kilauea is roughly 30 minutes, to the East Side (where the airport is) is 70 minutes, and to the South Shore is over 90 minutes. We highly recommend renting a car, as third party guests are unfortunately NOT able to use the resort shuttle services. We do, however, encourage guests to take advantage of the North Shore Shuttle, which services locations such as the Wainiha Country Market, Limahuli Gardens, and Ha'ena State Park. The shuttle will pick you up in the parking lot of Hanalei Colony Resort (super convenient!), and advance reservations are required.
As with most homes on Kauai, this vacation rental is NOT air conditioned, however there are ceiling fans in each space and additional tower fans to help with air flow.
This is an upstairs unit. You must be able to go up and down 2.5 flights of stairs (roughly 25 steps) to access the unit. There are no elevators.
Although this home has internet, the speed and reliability cannot be guaranteed due to the remote location and the service being provided by a third-party.

Any interruption of services within the property, or inclement weather during your stay, will not serve to void or cancel the rental agreement.

"Beautiful spot!
If you are looking for a private, beautiful beach, look no more. This is a beautiful spot and steps from the door. If you are looking for an updated, lively resort, this is not the spot. This is an older, quiet condo complex. It is toward the end of the road north of Hanalei. There isn't a lot close by. The unit has an amazing view of the ocean and you can fall asleep to the waves every night. It is older and shows signs of wear. Being this close to the ocean, you should expect that. I do agree with other reviewers, it could use a good deep cleaning. Also, be aware, there is no TV. This can be a good thing though, but if you are wanting to catch a big game, you won't be able to do so here. We enjoyed our stay here and got lots of rest and relaxation. Pool area has been updated and is very nice-complete with covered BBQ and hang out spot. Not sure if we'd stay again, but we are glad we tried this area. "

"October stay in K4
My wife and I absolutely loved this property. Our only complaint was one of the blinds wouldn’t pull down. AC would be nice but it’s not a necessity. This is the only place we will stay on Kaua’i, we loved it that much. We drove around to look at other places we thought about staying and were so happy that we chose HCR. Sure there’s other fancier places to stay but we came to Kauai hoping not to get the touristy feeling. HCR was nothing but peaceful and relaxed and we can’t wait to come back! We are already looking to book again for next year. "

"Excellent Location with beach access!
The view was amazing! We could see, hear, and smell the ocean. The room was very small for the 4 of us, but having two bathrooms was a plus! It definitely needs a deep clean and some repairs. The doors to the one bedroom were off the track and couldn't close. There was a considerable amount of grimy dust on the wood shutters throughout the room. I think it might benefit from a dehumidifier as all the drapes were damp and musty smelling. We had a bit of difficulty getting there at night. You could not see which building was which. We had to call the property and ask for help. They weren't very nice at first because we did not book through them, but they did help us."

Wind song and waves make it obvious you’re not in Kansas anymore. Wake up to sunrise over the ocean and Princeville across the water. Quiet surroundings encourage your morning preferred hot beverage on your private lanai. Charming restaurant with good food just across the lawn. Spa offering wonderful beachside massages by appointment. "

"Great location but could use some updating
Second floor condo had a beautiful ocean view but could use some updating. Mattress on the bed is saggy and needs to be replaced. Pillows are terrible - super spongy. One of the toilets had trouble flushing. Kitchen and bathrooms were not as clean as they should be. Kitchen appliances (i.e. fridge and stove) were rusted and needed cleaning. Good kitchen supplies including dishes and pots/pans. Easy check in and check out."

"Not much of a vacation
I did not partiulcarly like being warned about the $250 cleaning depositing. No one ever contacted me.
Went to he office on property and was told they didnt
they didnt hand that property. No TV. Was told to wash the dishes...what the **** was I paying @250 for????? There wasnt even a dish rach there to dry
the dishes. No sponge to wash with. O e dish towel. No umbrella but buggie boards and snorkels but no umbrella for their older clients. No one to
help get your things to you room and up the stairs. I am 88 years old!!!!"

"Cool Location - Needs a good cleaning
The location was nice, very quiet. It would be an awesome place to stay with a little better weather. During the rainy/windy season it isn’t ideal. The bed needs replaced it has a sink hole in the middle. It could use some updates as well as cleaned really well. The unity had built up dust (especially lamps, top of fridge etc.) and we didn’t even cook in the kitchen because it was just kind of gross. Maybe just a plumbing issue but the drains didn’t work well nor did the toilets. "

"Absolutely perfect
This condo was absolutely amazing. It is small and rather open (think loft style) but the view... and having the beach literally steps away made this the perfect choice. There is even a little coffee shop and a restaurant on the property m. We loved both. The condo had beach chairs and toys that were fabulous to have. We wish our stay here had been longer - or better yet that one on property would go up for sale! We loved it that much! "
