Visitor Reviews (134) Write a Review! "Nice The cabin itself was clean, the textured pillows on the couch and the pull out need a steam clean, so we didn’t use it. The Wi-Fi and cable had poor signal. So we were unable to watch a family movie together and there were many grunts and groans over the slow Wi-Fi connection. (The kids had jokes about it endlessly). The cabin itself is simple, no wow factor or anything to write home about, but has what you need and the space was adequate. Spring mattresses, creaky beds gave everyone a laugh. We didn’t use the hot tub, but there is one there. You’d have to do some sweeping on the decks and around the hot tub to get in and not track leaves, sticks, sand etc. (I am unsure if that is part of the cleaning in between guests). The location is a very close drive to downtown shops/restaurants/sightseeing/grocery store/gas/liquor store etc. I would try as much as possible to not arrive when it is dark because the roads are steep and narrow going up the mountain. Plus in the dark you cannot see some street names depending on the way you get up into the mountain. Try to use the directions provided from Elk Resort. The cabin was very dusty and there was trash behind the bed and in tbe night stand. The upstairs bath tub took 20 minutes to drain. When we booked this stay a few months ago, I knew with staying in December there was a possibility of snow so I specifically asked if we would be able to get to our cabin if it did snow and was told "yes, it is located in a subdivision so they clean the roads." We were very excited as this was part of our children's Christmas. We arrived the day after Christmas only to be told our cabin wouldn't be ready for 2 and a half hours after check in time so we did fun stuff in Pigeon Forge to take some time. We got a text saying it was ready so we made out way to the cabin the cleaning people were still there there was food crumbs on the table, food on the floor upstairs, the vent for the furnace appears to have never been cleaned. It started snowing and we went to get dinner and groceries found out the roads are actually not cleaned at all and saw cars flipped upside down and off in the ditch. We slid backward down the mountain road terrified and thankfully have experience driving in the snow so we made it but it was the same thing for 2 days. Had I been told the truth about the roads I would have booked elsewhere. It would have been beautiful in the fall or summer but most definitely not in the winter. The forecast was not calling for snow but still please be honest with guests who are considering booking. The showers were also not clean and the main room bed had stains on the sheets as well. The pull out couch bed had stuff on it as well. For the price I would definitely not stay here again. Also, in the winter there's no snow shovel or anything so we tried to sweep the snow so we could at least walk out on the deck. Each time, the cabin has been clean, nice, comfy, and cool at arrival. The view is absolutely breathtaking and always gives that piece of serenity that’s needed to escape whatever!!!! Last year, we did all of the touring and visited a lot of the local sites and attractions, and it was a fun filled time, but this year was all about downtime. The grounds are clean, and the staff is always extremely professional. The cabin itself is nice n cozy for my family with more than enough space to create the home away from home feeling. And the hot tub on the patio around back is an extremely nice perk as well!!! And yes, there are plans for another visit next year...all due to the professional of the rental agency, the supreme location and view of the mountains over the loft daily, and just a heavenly experience!!! And they sent very helpful reminder texts up to and during our stay. I would highly recommend this cabin. The only caution I would offer future renters is be aware of the location. Our family of 6 spent alot of time hiking the trails in the mornings and exploring downtown Gatlinburg in the evenings and spent SO MUCH TIME driving. This cabin is close to nothing. Anything you do is at least 30 minutes away. The website says Food City grocery store is 5 minutes from this property. Absolutely false. It takes a good 10-15 minutes just to get down the mountain with all the very sharp turns. It was a little disappointing that they weren't more upfront about distance to places. Its still a wonderful cabin, just plan on driving alot. My only true "complaint" was the tip envelope waiting for us at check-in asking us to show our appreciation for the cabin being clean. Just when i thought things couldn't get worse, there was a storm and we were without power and water til the next morning. Some people don't care much for the hot tubs but it'll be very important information for those like myself who LOVE to spend most of their time in the hot tub. There's a steep driveway with a flat area at the top which was perfect for the kids to ride the bikes/scooters. Expect about a 25-30 minute drive to Smoky Mountain park because of the small roads + the Gatlinburg traffic, but it wasn't bad. The view was great and the property was very private. The drive up to the cabin is a little sketchy, especially when returning in the dark, but that was to be expected as the property is on a mountain. However, the only complaint I would have about the property is that there was a problem with the downstairs bathroom. I would turn on the shower and the water would just trickle out. It took at least 5-10 minutes for the water pressure to finally kick in enough to actually activate the shower. The water would even shut off completely in the middle of a short shower and take a few minutes to come back on. Also, there was a problem with the toilet in that same bathroom. It would continue to run after it was flushed and you’d have to take the lid off the tank and jiggle the handle in order for it to finally shut off and stop running water. Other than that, the entire trip was a great time and we’re considering returning next year, however we may be choosing a different cabin, as the bathroom situation was a bit of an inconvenience." We loved the cabin, the views, and we we had bears come right up to the porch which was an amazing experience! The only thing that would have made our stay more comfortable was if it was cleaner. The floors seemed as though they had been swept but not mopped as my children’s feet were black within an hour of arrival. There was also quite a lot of dust in the less frequented places such as the closest, under beds, in corners. The only reason I noticed this so much was because of my toddlers exploring every nook and cranny of a new environment, but I still would have loved if it had been cleaner. Overall however we had lovely stay and we would book the Cabin again. Waking up to those views was an experience you can not replace. A friendly cat decided to make the front porch his home while we stayed and my grandsons thought he was awesome. The location was excellent - close to Pidgeon Forge, Dollywood and Gatlinburg. We thought staying in the cabin was a much better experience than staying in town, with all the noise and traffic. There was an issue with one of the toilets when we checked in, but it was taken care of quickly after calling management. The staff is friendly. We would definitely stay again." The kitchen had everything we needed and even had dish soap and laundry detergent. We had to call maintanence a couple of times. I envisioned a Weber type grill but it was a permanent grill in the grounds. With all the rain we had it never dried out so we could not use it. Also, I have never seen spiders so big! I know there is nothing that can be done about that but it prevented us from using the hot tub at night. But that’s just me! At least they stayed outside. It’s a very steep drive to the cabin too. I can’t imagine trying to get up there in the winter. But you get used to it just in time to check out. 15 minutes to Gatlinburg and you have to drive through the Arts and Craft community to get there which was nice. Would absolutely rent from Elk Springs again! One more thing, the tv has parental locks on. We asked the office and they offered suggestions but none worked. Thankfully there was a Walmart nearby for cleaning supplies. Flooring was poorly kept (laminate flooring near kitchen had holes in it, carpeting was dark / filthy). Glass dining table was full of streaks and fingerprints. Top of refrigerator had a film of dust. Bathrooms were also significantly dusty (between paneling/ corners and window valances). Toilets were stained. Pots and pans were falling apart (no lids,teflon was all scratched, and all handles were loose). Additionally, bedsheet / mattress cover in the loft was grossly stained. The off white curtains on the main level were all stained as well. The spa was not sanitized and merely drained and refilled. We requested bromine tabs to no avail. We personally bought bromine / spa shock. We were easy going and addressed issues independently figuring we were in the woods so what can we expect, but each day it was something new. So we decided to check out a day early. We notified Elks Springs of our early check out and lack of hygienic practices providing pictures and screenshots of text communications as per issues. We kindly requested a refund (approx. $150 for the 1 day [early check out] for the unsanitary inconveniences. They said they couldn't but would review it and get back to me. After not hearing back after a week, I contacted Elks Springs as per the status of the refund and was told it was denied. I thanked them and informed them that I would include our communications and supporting pictures on all reviews (Google, Yelp, TripAdvisor, etc.). I can only hope that they addressed the unacceptable housekeeping issues for the next guests. Honestly, we loved TN and look forward to a do over. We travel often and abroad renting luxury cabins without issues. This was a first for us. Thankfully, there are many rental companies that prioritize best practices; unlike Elks Springs. All of the appliances and bathrooms looked brand new and were as clean as they could be. Even though the pictures online don't show it, the living room now has a 40-50" flat screen TV (yea)...perfect for watching the football games on Direct TV. Had a small problem with some noisy neighbors across the street (in a cabin not managed by Elk Creek Resorts), but that was taken care of quickly and Elk Creek called to apologize the very next morning. The cabin is older, in need of some outside TLC, obviously no one cleaned up the outside deck area. There were wasps nests and cob web galore We bought a can of wasp spray the first day. But the cabin inside was very clean. The cleaning company did a fabulous job, it was spotless! Our family of 4 enjoyed it so much we considered reserving it for a few more extra days. Stocked well, tv, internet, appliances...everything in descent working order. We had a very bad day of severe storms and a tree snapped off in the driveway. Elk Resorts took care of it immediately and everyone was friendly and responsive from booking to check-out, very easy process. This was our 4th time staying in the area and I would recommend this company and this cabin. The best part, the view! The view of the mountains is breathtaking. We enjoyed our morning coffee on the deck every day and took in the view every chance we got! Beautiful! We stayed July 2015. My husband, kids, and myself felt at home here. The room situation is a little unique as the downstairs room did not have a private bathroom and was a shared bathroom for all guests. The loft bedroom upstairs had it's own bathroom but I don't really consider it a bedroom as there is minimal privacy. This is not ideal for two couples but great for a family with kids that can share that space. There was a very nice, large TV in the living room but the bedroom TVs need to be updated, especially for this being a "luxury" cabin. The cabin was well stocked with all you would need to cook and eat in. The location is nice. If traveling in inclement weather you will need 4WD. The sheets were ok the pillows were old and need to be replaced. The king size pillows had two standard pillow cases put together to cover the pillow, not too classy for such a nice house. The tvs need to be replaced and get with the times such as a flat screen. There was also a stray cat that kept trying to get into the house and my friend is very afraid of cats. Bed sheets and blankets (NOT EVEN ENOUGH FOR 6) were a disgrace more so were the two extra beds where springs came out of the mattresses and were too small for a normal sized person to sleep in. You advertise a lodge which sleeps 6 but have no decent amenities. Location was however very nice. I believe a refund for these bad beds should be in place. The only negatives that I would say there were are the following. Very outdated electronics (TVs DVD players ect) one of the curtains in the living room was stained pretty badly, we found several dead bugs behind one of the beds, & the hot tub did not get hot stayed Luke warm no matter what temp setting we attempted to put it on. Overall it was a nice cabin for my wife & I. We would give it a total of 4 out of five stars. If they were to upgrade the electronics & fix or correct the other small issues it would easily be a 5 star rated cabin. " May 27, 2013 - William S., Hicksville, OH "A wonderful stay My family and I stayed at "A Slice of Heaven" for four nights, mid-week, and overall, we had a very relaxing and wonderful time. The cabin was nicely furnished, and pretty much everything worked great. The only minor issues we had were related to the electrical system in the cabin. First, the main floor bedroom circuit breaker had tripped prior to our arrival, so we couldn't watch the TV the first night (the property management personnel came out very quickly the next day and fixed the problem, though). Second, I think all the 3-way switches in the cabin were wired incorrectly, because only one of the two switches would turn the lights on and off, if the other switch was in the "on" position. This was a minor pain for the last person going up the stairs for the night. The view from the front and side decks was gorgeous, and it was so nice to wake up to a mountain view from the loft bedroom. There are two other cabins across the street, but they are at a lower elevation, so they don't interfere with the view of the mountains in the background. The cabin is very secluded, which is great if you just want to get away from it all, but if you are hoping to go out to eat every night, just keep in mind that there is about a 15-20 minute drive to the closest restaurant (i.e., McDonalds). We ended up stocking up the kitchen with food for the week, and grilled out in the charcoal grill that is provided."
