As we drove into the community, we were greeted by three black bear cubs playing in the trees. It was incredible. The cabin location is great - about 30 min drive to the actual National Park, like 15 min to nearest grocery store. The community was quiet and peaceful - I know the cabins near were occupied, but we never heard anyone. The views are amazing - just sit out on the balcony drinking coffee, or soaking in the hot tub. The cabin itself is clean and comfy, and has everything you would need. I cooked a Thanksgiving dinner, and had no problems. The upstairs has a pool table and foosball table - kids had a blast with that - which was great while mom and dad relaxed in the hot tub. I will definitely come back and stay again in this cabin. Upon our arrival, I wiped down all of the hand rails and "touch points" with lysol wipes and the wipes were covered in dirt :( The view was amazing and the kids had fun but the sanitation standards were far below what you would expect from a "resort". Our 5 yrs and 3 yrs old children slept with my husband and i on a king size bed. 3 teenage girls slept on air mattresses that we had to go buy at 2am from Walmart. Since it was Saturday night and then Sunday, they could not do anything until Monday. We were transferred to another cabin called Cowboy way which was spotless, smelled beautiful, and it was situated in wooded area. Loved it there! The reservation and check-in/check-out processes were quick and easy. We also liked the washer/dryer combo and used it several times. THE BAD: This cabin is 15+ years old and in need of some updating. The bottom of one of the sofas was broken and you literally sit on the floor. The bed could use a new mattress and the carpet is showing wear in some areas. Refrigerant was being added to the A/C system as we arrived. It worked well for most of our stay but it was blowing warm the night before we left. Overall cleanliness was pretty good but the windows were dirty, which was disappointing as it detracted from the amazing view. It's understandable that some of the windows are very difficult to reach, but the large windows facing the deck are within arm's reach and were dirty and full of cobwebs. OVERALL: It's a nice place to stay. The area is beautiful, the location convenient, and the views are top-notch. However, some updates, repairs, and attention to detail would make it so much better." It is a great location, with wonderful views and not a far drive at all from Gatlinburg or Pigeon Forge. Super convenient check in (they send you a code for the door)! Don't expect cable to work very well. Unfortunately we were only staying 2 nights--and (understandably) they drain and refill the hot tub between guests. Well, it usually takes a few days before the water gets completely hot again, so we only ever got the hot tub to about 97. Also, we had a pump jacuzzi tub (which we didn't know and it wasn't written anywhere), but they very quickly answered my call for maintenance. We called around 11:30 pm and left the message, and they called back within 10 minutes. Offered to send someone that night or the next day. Not sure if it's completely worth the price, but it was definitely a really nice cabin. Would definitely look in to having friends stay there one summer and split the cost." However, on our second night we were woken up by a very strong odor. After a little investigating of our own, we realized it was definitely raw sewage that we were smelling. We immediately called to report the issue and the customer service was very helpful. She dispatched a maintenance worker for us. Unfortunately it took over an hour for the maintenance worker to arrive. He was very nice and helpful. After a few moments he showed us the enormous pile of hair, etc. that he pulled out of the shower drain. It was beyond disgusting! After he left the only thing we could do was open all windows and doors until the smell finally aired out. Because of this we lost the night of sleep which pretty much ruined the next day. Two days later the smell returned and an "odor specialist" was sent out. We left for the day, but apparently they pulled the same sort of hair, etc. out of the bathroom sink. It seems like regular maintenance is not a priority. With the amount of people staying in the cabins they should be cleaned on a regular basis to avoid issues like this. Since we were on vacation we didn't want to get worked up and cause an issue, but we were very surprised/disappointed that we were not offered any sort of reimbursement for the issues. Smokey sunrise is located very centrally to Pigeon Forge, Gatlinburg, & the National Park you can he any place within 10-15 min. We loved and enjoyed the layout and flow of the cabin. Our only complaints with the property was a few cleaning & maintenance issues. (Broken stove knob, blown bulbs, shower knob that would pop off if not careful, heavy dust in spots and heavy cobwebs in spots) None of the issues were horrible or effected our stay long term. The cabin was generally clean nothing gross but definitely not to the level we keep our home clean. The different cleaning companies and the zipline shuttles that share the resorts road ways grew a bit tiresome with there flying around & not staying on their side of the road, you had to be VERY cautious. Outside of those small issues it's a great cabin and value for that long waited vacation or weekend get away. This was our second straight year using ELK SPRINGS & we're already looking at booking next years vacation. :-) " Jun 14, 2014 - William S., Hicksville, OH "Family fun... We never tired of the breath taking views of the mountains...we enjoyed grilling out, playing pool with the kids and the hot-tub was great after a day of hiking. The cabin was located close enough to the attractions that we didn't spend too much time driving, but far enough out that it was peaceful. The property management company was extremely solicitous of our comfort - our grill tongs and toaster didn't work that well and they replaced them immediately after a phone call. Awesome! Bet it looks even better in the fall. But it is very pricy. The cabin itself was beautiful, the knotted pine, huge windows so you can see the view, the layout and the furniture was okay. The cleanliness: I guess if the cleaners don't live there they really only do the minimum (to their standards). The top of the refrigerator was filthy inch thick in dirt, the air intake by the furnace also filthy, two of the big windows were clean but the higher windows had cobwebs all over them (time to be cleaned inside and out), the cleaning company needs to invest in some shop vacs (with attachments) so they can clean around the baseboards . It just amazes me how something so simple doesn't get done. That being said, I can only imaging the filth on top of the mantel by the fire place with the fake greenery and above the cabinets in the kitchen since the refrigerator was missed. Makes me wonder if the hot tub really gets emptied every time (as my husband was told)? I sat outside when cleaners arrived to the cabin next to us, I saw no indication that the hot tub was emptied, washed down and refilled. Hmmm " May 30, 2014 - Matthew Z., Lockport, IL
