Then hurricane Helene came, along with stink bugs on our windows with the views. We called and maintenance came and sprayed for bugs. Bug problem solved, but the windows view had spray all over, distorting the view. Saturday came and the Smoky Mountain closed (main reason for our stay). I called and asked that if the park hadn't opened by Wednesday what our options were. They said we could either stay or leave, but we were going to pay for the whole stay. I said we had purchased the trip insurance, and they said that was just to cancel before we arrived. I said that a hurricane and the park closure should be an exception, but was told it wasn't. I asked to speak with the supervisor and was told I couldn't. They told me the rules, and wouldn't let me talk to the supervisor. I was going to mention about the bug spray issue, but figured it would fall on deaf ears. The park did open up on Wednesday, so things kind of worked out. There is a window high up in the main area..and the cabin behind can look directly into it (curtain or blinds would be great there.) Kind of a big deal..a note states that the AC cannot be set below 70, and on hotter days it just couldn't keep up. There are ceiling fans, but speed could not be changed, so they didn't help. The couches were quite worn and sunken in (uncomfortable), definitely could be replaced. A full length mirror would be useful. Things that were not available: sponge for washing dishes, tissues, paper towels, kitchen hand towel. The deck could use a coat of paint. A curtain in the room with the pool table would be nice so the neighbors cant look directly in the giant window. The hot tub is on the lower deck. Photos must be older because they show a view from the hot tub, but there were trees that have grown right in front of the deck, so you really can't see much from the lower deck. They made us check in late by 1.5 hrs for cleaning and maintenance. (Check in can apparently be delayed if they want it to be, but check out will not be under any circumstances.) 2. We found a woman's crusty panties and tank top shoved in the pull out bed. 3. The bedding in the pull out bed hadn't been changed. The resort rep was aw nothing wrong with either of these things. We were not offered any recompense. (I let loose in the background of this phone call because this is the most disgusting thing I have ever experienced at ANY resort.) 4. When we replaced the bedding ourselves because the resort didn't have anyone else to do it, the blanket they provided us smelled like musty armpit. It hadn't been cleaned either. We booked for a long weekend in February 2018 through Groupon. The booking process through Groupon was a little unclear, but we ended up saving a good amount of money with it. Check-in/arrival was pretty easy no hiccups - the cabin was ready for check in about 2 hours early. The cabin itself is a log cabin dream! Plenty of space and the log cabin feel was exactly what we were looking for. It was very foggy and cloudy the first two days so we didn't get to truly enjoy the view until day 3, and boy was it worth it!! A few things to note though - this cabin is in Sevierville, not Gatlinburg. The drive into Gatlinburg is an easy 20-30 minute drive either through backroads or along the highway. The mountains are also about 30-40 minutes if taking the bypass to Newfound Gap Rd. The other thing to note is that while the cabin was perfect for our stay, many of the images on the website are stock images and aren't necessarily the exact house you're booking. I was interested in this house because it had a porch swing, and couldn't tell that it has a pool table.
