The cleaning/maintenance staff obviously knew of the issue because there was an ozone machine already running in the cabin. The ozone machine was removed by maintenance early in day one & then re-installed after we complained. The place needs a dehumidifier & a deep cleaning. We left a day early. This was an easy drive up and flat parking. The cabin itself had a very rustic feel with all the modern amenities. The hot tub was amazing! We were visited by a bear for the first four nights of our trip until the snow hit. I named him Oliver after our big cat that looks like a black bear. Elk springs Resort was a great to work with and checked on us frequently via text. And they were not automated texts. Great experience! Will definitely stay again!" Sleeping areas had kingsize bed and the mattresses were incredible. Sufficient towels were provided to allow for hot tub use and showers. Parking was good and allowed for 2 vehicles. Location allows up to 4 maybe 5 vehicles, but the parking is shared with another cabin. Kitchen is serviceable and the refrigerator is a good size. Staff provided plenty of replacement garbage bags which was nice. The best perk was they allowed dogs and only charged $50. The front of the cabin exterior was clean and maintained. Cons - the drive up Ski Mntn Rd was very treacherous, be prepared. The description and pictures were misleading. We assumed there was more property to allow our dog to play and that was not the case. The cabin is literally 40 ft from Ski Mntn Rd, with only the creek between you and the road. Furniture was rearranged for pictures to give the impression of a larger living space, but it was very crowded. Lower level bedroom is very tight and had no closet. They may argue an armoire was in the room, but with a king size bed the armoire could not be opened,the bedroom was very dark and did not have an overhead light. In addition, there was only one night stand and you had to crawl over the bed due to storing your luggage on the floor next, and we only had 2 small roller bags! Bathrooms are tight; there is no room to place beauty products and the showers need overhead lights - it was very dark once the shower curtain was closed. Loft bedroom had more space to maneuver, but come-on a night stand on each side of the bed should be a given. Bring your own pillows unless you are a fan of feather pillows. The back of the cabin exterior needs to be cleanup up (old cut stumps, hoses, etc, and it literally against a hill, so there are no views, except for of the houses up the hill. The cabin is directly on a major uphill road with considerable traffic. When sitting on the porch cars and truck are loudly traveling by blocking the sound of the stream. The picture doesn’t show that the road is about 15 feet from the stream. The outside areas had not been cleaned and little to no comfortable restful space was found. Upon entering the cabin we were hit with an extremely strong mold or urine smell. All we could figure was that the couches needed to be replaced. We struggled to sit on them to watch the news. Once we did our clothes carried the sent and needed to be washed unless we wanted to carry the smell with us. The upstairs bed was awesome. By keeping the windows open we were able to minimize the smell from downstairs, even though it was always present. It didn’t seem that the cabin had been cleaned by a quality crew. Cob webs, filthy windows and drapes were throughout. Now for some positive. Booking was extremely easy, Elk Springs resorts were prompt in contact to us, great support, and very friendly. If I was them I would consider removing this cabin from their rental program until these issues could be resolved. The cabin is a small cozy two bedroom. The first bedroom is on the main floor and the second is on the second floor open loft. The cabin is right on ski mountain road and the front of the cabin faces the road. It does have a nice small creek between the cabin and the road. If you are renting the cabin with the plans to sit outside with a view I would pick another. The cabin has all of the basic stuff inside for your stay. Thankfully it is only about a 8 - 10 minute drive to downtown Gatlinburg and a few minutes to the top of Ober Mountain. Unfortunately the cabin was extremely dusty and had tons of cobwebs all over the ceilings. The ceiling fan over the loft bed had a thick layer of dust as well. For some reason two of the three tvs had their hdmi cables unplugged from the tvs. Overall everything else was okay however we did not use the hot tub or jetted tub due to the concerns of cleanliness. If they actually did a nice spring cleaning the cabin would be a nice cozy place to stay. I would strongly not recommend staying until then. First, the cabin was not cleaned to the level expected. Out of ten, the cleanliness was a 4. We were there for 10 days. The pots and pans were good for small quick meals, but we had to go purchase a can opener (the provided one did not work), a large soup pot and other small items. The jetted bath tub did not work at arrival, but was repaired two days later. The next day it was not working again (my husband repaired so that it could be used). In all it was able to be used 2 times due to being broken and then lack of water due to frozen water lines. We were reassured 3 times that there was a Christmas tree. However, upon arrival there was not one. We had to go find one as we had 2 small children there for Christmas morning. The windows and doors are not insulated and you can feel the wind blowing in. While there is work that needs to be done, the management company was great to respond and always communicated with us. I can see us potentially using Elk Springs again. Walking dogs alongside this road isn't a safe option. Other than that, it's a great property to rest your head after a long day of exploring the Smoky Mountains. Wished we could have used more of the cabins amenities, such as the grill, picnic table, hot tub, and porch But because of 2 reasons, one the rain and two the guest book mentioned bears like to frequent the back of the cabin, have been seen in the hot tub we did not feel it was safe to eat outside, nor use the tub in pitch dark at night with no covered porch, or outside protective enclosure near the hot tub and picnic table. It really needs a covered porch, so guests aren't trapped inside. Bears are great from a distance but this visit we had an opportunity to witness up close. At the neighbor cabin next door, they left their car unlocked one day. At about 1030am my brother-in-law (b-i-l), spouse and 2 dogs were outside sitting on the swing. My (b-i-l) heard a car door open, but didn't see anyone. He heard it again then seen that the was door open. He next seen a bear standing up with its paws on his car. He told my spouse, and they sat quietly, the bear next came up to the bridge and started to come over. My spouse moved the dogs to inside the cabin, and told me about the bear. Bear walked down the main street, cars stopping. We went to the cabin next door to tell them and they admitted they did not lock their car and stated they had McDonald's last night. The bear had opened their car, and gone thru it and the center console. The next day a momma bear and 4 cubs crossed the creek. I realized it's named bear creek cabin for a reason. The downstairs bedroom is small with the large bed in it, no room to walk. We did not use the side door to the deck, could not get around the kitchen table. Couches could be leather, cloth has seen it day and traps dirt, sweat of others. Wish people wouldn't keep pets locked in bathrooms, there are scratches inside. We use crates." We received a refund for the 2 nights we didn’t stay there (no other cabins were available) but the resort company has been avoiding my requests for additional compensation. Very little room on sides of beds to get in and out. Rooms would be nicer with queen size beds. No discounts offered for longer stay. Our hot tub did not work the first night we were there, Elk Springs Resorts were quick to get someone there to fix it, but he topped it off with cold water so it took some time to heat up again. The Resort did show up again and told us that if it was not working that meant the water was too low and we could fill it up with the hose. We did, but it had to warm up again. There was plenty of firewood to keep the fire place going. The place is small but worked fine for us. The upstairs bedroom is definitely nicer. The downstairs bedroom is very small and you can't open the armoire much because it hits the bed and then the bathroom is next to it kind of in the kitchen. The kitchen was stocked with everything we needed. The stove needs looked at as one of the burners didn't work and the oven parkway a really long time to heat up but we didn't call. We did make a call about the hot tub and they were bery quick to get back with us. Overall it was a very nice stay. If you're looking for luxurious it's probably not for you but if you're looking for rustic and cozy it was perfect! Also it is up really far but still a close drive to downtown Gatlinburg. Hot tub was a nice option, but we didn't use it. The wood burning fireplace with stocked wood was very nice to have though. It was very nice inside and had been decorated with a tree for Christmas. Overall had a great experience there and would go again. Only thing is that the road could be tricky to drive on in icy/ snowy conditions, as it quickly increases in steepness after leaving the main road in Gatlinburg. There is a sign that tells you to use chains or 4wd in icy/ snowy conditions on Ski Mountain Rd. going up to the cabin. Overall though we had a great stay at Bear Creek cabin." Nor were we able to use the "romantic fireplace" because the A/C did not work. (BTW bring your own starter log) After the A/C was fixed, I called 4 times asking for a supervisor (N/A) and NO returned phone calls. During the down time, the CS Supervisor assured me that we would be taken care of, but no response. We got 40% off for one night. Very disappointed in how this was handled. It is easy to get to and a quick drive to downtown Gatlinburg and the entrance to the park. Since it sits on Ski Mountain Road there is some road noise, but it didn't bother us. Elk Springs is fantastic to work with - they texted when the cabin was ready for check in and called to be sure everything was ok once we arrived. The staff I spoke to were enthusiastic and helpful. This cabin is very well situated without being difficult to get to. It's only a 5 minute drive to the heart of Gatlinburg! Please be aware that on the other side of that creek you see in the picture is a MAIN ROAD to a huge resort. If you do not like the sound of cars constantly driving by, this is not your place. It didn't bother us too much, but we're pretty easy people. The hot tub was clean and filled to the top. We didn't have starter soaps in the kitchen, but an email to the management company fixed that very quickly. They are receptive and quick to right any wrong. The furniture is in serious need of either a deep clean or replacement. We didn't sit on the couches because of how gross they were. As for the cabin itself, sadly, I came back with 11 or so flea bites. The person who slept in the bed downstairs didn't have any, so I probably got attacked in the bed upstairs. I did NOT realize this was a pet-friendly cabin. One person in my party got only 2 flea bites, and the other person in my party did not get bitten. The guest book at the cabin had complaints about fleas over a year ago. I wish I had known this prior to booking. We did not complain about it because we were not interested in moving locations after being settled. I did mention it in an email to the management company and they thanked me for my email." I thought I'd scored a great deal through Groupon: $299 for 2 nights in a 2br/2ba cabin in the breathtaking Smoky Mountains! Sounds great, huh? Well, after I booked my cabin on the website, there was a whopping additional $201 charge for taxes/fees (of course - sounded too good to be true, right?). Already feeling slightly swindled, we take the journey to Gatlinburg anyway, and arrive at a quite ordinary cabin. Checking the place out, we found what appeared to be a Clorox wipe in the sink. Embarrassed that my girlfriend thought the housekeeper left that in the sink, I attempt to clean it up. Removing this "wipe" revealed a gaping hole in the sink. The maintenance team clearly and deliberately covered this up instead of replacing the cheap $50 sink. The next morning, we woke up to a clogged toilet on the bottom floor, same bathroom. Luckily, the cabin's management was extremely apologetic. They came to unclog the toilet within a few hours, but unfortunately, they didn't replace the cheap sink with the gaping hole. Honestly, for $500 for 2 nights, I would have much rather stayed at the Hilton...or found a nicer cabin. Positives: I did enjoy the jacuzzi tub and wish I had time to relax in the hot tub. I also slept like a baby in the king bed! The bubbling creek was adorable as well. Also, they could have done a better job with cleaning the cabin. I never walked around without socks or shoes. Overall, I would never stay at Elk Springs Resort again, and I would not recommend that my friends or family do either." Apr 24, 2016 - , Atlanta, GA "Bear Creek Cabin I was miserable with our cabin. The downstairs bedroom was so small you could not open the wardrobe all the way. This made it very hard to get clothes in and out. There was not enough room for any type chest to put folded clothes in and you could not lay your luggage flat. We had to use the cabinet in the kitchen for clothes and food. This cabinet is meant for two people not four and for the price paid per night i was very upset." The sofa and pillows and blankets were so smelly and dirty they felt wet. The pictures are staged to give a much larger and better appearance than the actual cabin. There were no air vents in the top loft other than in the bathroom so it was very hot in the loft. The dryer doesn't work well and we had to dry the clothes 3 times. I would not stay here again."
