Great views" Aug 11, 2025 - Andrew E., Bethel, OH "Very awful experience Well my experience here was an experiment.. this is my first time staying at a log cabin which is very unsatisfied with once we pulled in to the property it was all rocks the limbs were hanging down everywhere the porch was nasty had cobwebs everywhere the welcome sign was old as the Hills there was only one light working the other ones were out proceed to walk around to the back to check everything out leaves everywhere cobwebs everywhere the rocking chairs had never been cleaned off the chair in front hadn't been cleaned off so my overall experience for the outside was not very good and I proceed to walk in it was very nice I go to each room head to the shower they look like they have been cleaned and I don't know when so I had proceed to clean them before we use them that black stuff all over them green stuff everywhere the washer and dryers look like they've been never cleaned it has so much lint and hair and grow stuff in it I wouldn't even dare to put my clothes in that dryer much less the washer which was pure filth and that's the God's honest truth I don't know who they get to clean those cabin rentals or chalets that they have but they need to find a better team than the ones they have doing it now I proceeded to go and open the dishwasher to check it out and needless to say bugs came out of it and then they multiply it out of it and then there were water bugs all in it so I just shut it up and let it be so overall again the inside was not much better than the outside so I was very disappointed for $1,700.." We have stayed in many Elk Springs cabins while visiting the Smokeys. However, this one did not live up to the expectations we have had with the other cabins. The outside areas were less than inviting, a dining table with only 3 chairs that has seen better days. The lower level with the hot tub had no other seating or tables, just a big empty area. We are used to amazing outdoor areas with lots of seating, porch swings, etc, to enjoy the views. At the least, a small table to place the towels. The theater room consisted of two mismatched couches and a large screen television. The directions on the wall were for a totally different setup and brands of electronics. We were sent a video link with instructions that were also for a different setup. The main floor great room again included two mismatched couches. Only one side of the reclining couch worked, and the other couch was extremely uncomfortable. This cabin has great potential. However, it needs some attention to detail. My furst expression of Take My Breath Away was the rustic indoor and outdoor. It was very clean which was super pleasing. There was plenty of room for our four adults and two children. The bathrooms were amazing. The showers were large enough for a group to fit in, not that we did. The kids and adults spent a lot of time playing pool. There was a hot tub but we never used it because we had very little time at the cabin. I loved the gas fireplace on the wall. The view was outstanding. The management was very prompt if I had any questions. We all loved our stay. We went to the Doxie Stampede, played golf, explored the shops and water show at the Island. Ate at the Melting Pot, wanted to eat at the Peddler Steakhouse but couldn't get reservations. We enjoyed just being at the cabin. It was so peaceful. The exit road from the cabin was scarry to drive on. We had a large truck. It would be much safer in a smaller vehicle. Can't wait to go back. The road to the cabin had a few tight turns but we quickly got used to these. We quickly became accustomed to the cabin and enjoyed getting back before nightfall to cook on the grill every night. Did not have to go to another location to check in, and Elk Springs representative texted us again after check in with additional information about Wi-Fi and the theater system. Hate to give any negative feedback but as much as we paid for this cabin, our vacation was not as expected. I prefer a mountain view. But trees were overgrown blocking much of the view. I prefer being as high up as I can get so I am looking down. But this cabin you are at the bottom looking up. If they would just top a few trees or cut a few down, the view would have been sufficient. Secondly, the movie room in pics had nice theater style chairs with cupholders and recliners. The cabin has outdated sofas that did not present much comfort. Thirdly, the grill in pics was replaced with a much smaller and older grill. Also in pics you get a great view from the grill area. In reality you see nothing but woods behind the grill due to trees overgrown. Next critique, in the pool room. There is no deck, just windows. That is the third floor and is the highest point that would provide a nicer view. Also in the pool room the tv only picked up one channel. Next, the master bath with the oversize shower. It was a very nice shower. But the drain was clogged causing a flood ankle deep. I cleared the clog. It appears there was hair from the 70s in the drain. Did all I could and it still appeared slow drain. The fireplace in the master bath was also broken. I did get it to work but had to do some working with it. I ended up doing a lot of maintenance work myself that should have been complete before we got there. Light bulbs were out and had to be replaced. The track lights in movie room were all burned out. Appliances were pretty old. So much so, my wife refused to use any of them. And she prefers to cook than eat out. The hot tub was sorta nice. But again, did not appear very clean. In conclusion, if I had known all this I would have never reserved this cabin. Certainly would not have paid as much as we did. It was worth about half what we paid. Just not what we expected and was outdated. In fact we left a day early. Its ok, just not worth what we paid." The spacious and plentiful bathrooms were probably one of the best things about this cabin. There were some things that didn't meet our expectations. The hot tub seemed old and didn't work well. Only a few of the jets actually worked and it didn't produce enough water movement to feel like you were in a hot tub. I could look down and see my feet in the water. The water also didn't get hot enough, although I had the temp set as high as it would go and gave it 18 hours to warm up. The door lock on the main door never worked properly. When we left the cabin, we couldn't get it to lock from the outside. We had to exit through another door. The electric fireplace in the living room didn't work. The cable was only the basic Comcast package and wasn't in HD - so the nice tv's in the cabin were pointless because there was no HD content unless you were watching a movie on dvd. One couple went there for their honeymoon and other friends took their family there. All have returned with rave reviews. My favorite part of renting a different cabin each year with my buddies is going in and seeing all that an Elk Springs Resort cabin has to offer. It has yet to be a disappointment. Very spacious and nicely done. the location is a little bit far out from gatlinburg and pigeon forge but not too far. the view was nothing short of night you could only see the light of a few cabins. During the day there is amazing mountain views and the cabin is very private. Now the not so good stuff. upon our apprival we figured out the hot tub was not working. Elk springs sent someone out right away and within an hour it was working again. Problem was it took several hours to warm up making it unuseable the first of our two night stay. The showers in this cabin are nothing short of luxuary. However two of the shower heads did not work. Not a big deal. The TV in the upstairs bedroom did not work either. On our second night stay we found the propane tank to be empty on the grill. When I called no one knew the combination to get the spare tank unlocked so they offered to send someone with a new tank. The new tank took over two hours to arrive. Ended up using a spare tank off the fire pit in the table. None of these issues were deal breakers and Elk springs did fix or offer to fix all of the issues right away but who wants to wait on the repair man on their vacation. First, we rented it because of the alleged views of the mountains, and they were better than expected with its location on the edge of the national park with wonderful views of the front range! Second, this place has a ton of room - the kitchen is very large, the deck has plenty of room, the upstairs game room is amazing with great views, etc! The master bathroom is also amazing! The location is also secluded, which is EXACTLY what we were looking for. It's about 25 minutes to downtown Gatlinburg, and only about 15 minutes to the Greenbrier entrance to the National Park. Finally, Elk Springs does a great job - we couldn't be happier with their service and support and we will continue to use them as our go-to property management company in the area!" Overall I had a very good stay at this lovely, huge and comfy cabin, however, it was a long story before getting to enjoy it. Originally I was going to stay 2 nights at "cozy bear ridge" cabin which has 3 bedrooms, big windows overlooking the mountains and all the good stuff. When we arrived at cozy bear, the maintenance guy was already there and informed us that the freon is leaking and he's still waiting for the Elk Spring office to get back to him. Elk spring office was contacted but it took about 2 hrs before I was told that I have to stay one night at the cable "take my breath away", and the other night at another cabin called "finders keepers". My friends and I were already tired from the traveling, wanting to have a place for rest. Our plan of resting before going out for a hike had to be unfortunately cancelled. We could not go to other places either. I was afraid to miss calls due to bad receptions in the mountains. I understand that it was during the labor day long weekends, and it was hard to look for available cabins and I am glad that I was still able to get to stay at a cabin and I really enjoyed it. But wouldn't it be nice if AC related problems can be prevented? I appreciated all the help I received from hardworking and friendly staff supporting tourists like me during the holidays. The modern style showers were excellent and it had every appliance and dish we needed for our stay. We rented it for the view and it was much like the name breathtaking. Our only problem is that it here was a lady bug infestation. We understood that there wasn't anything that could be done about keeping them out, but the place was not throughly cleaned of dead bugs before we arrive. We had to vacuum the window ledges and the light fixture above the bed to make sure none of the dead bugs fell in the bed. In the upstairs pool table area every surface had dead ladybugs and the minute you moved a chair you found bugs that could have easily been vacuumed before we arrived. There were also several light bulbs that were burnt out and could have been replaced prior to our arrival. The cabin is one of the newest ones and these little details stood out because it was such a great cabin.
