The house temp inside routinely got to about 83 degrees. Each time maintenance would come drain water from the air handler pan and reset the system. As soon as the pan filled up with water again it went out again. They didn’t even bother to come the last day. They offered no credit or anything. Avoid this house and this company. We were there with no WIFI/Internet the entire time, limited toilet paper and soap. One of the bedrooms upstairs had constant air blowing in the face right above the headboard. No lights on the deck on the grill side. Also, at one point we did not have power. With the cost of the cabin you would think that we would have had more than one roll of toilet paper per bathroom and we should have had internet services. When we called about it we were told that they were working on getting in touch with the internet provider. We never heard back or had the service. I feel that it’s only fair that we should be compensated for the inconvenience. We did have a roach turn up on the stairway one day. It was half-dead with legs in the air, but still kicking. So the property must have had been sprayed at some point. The theater room was nice, but someone had disconnected the hdmi cables to the sound bar and the hdmi switch. It took a little time to put them all back, and after that it was nice to sit back, relax, and enjoy watching a movie. Pool table was nice. The masterbath did smell a bit odoriferous, but it looked clean. Personally I wouldn't use the ice and water from the frig' because the ice tasted a bit bitter. So not sure if the water filter in the frig had been changed regularly. So the big things with the cabin are all good with some complaints as well." The one thing I lke when staying in the mountains is sitting in the hot tub or on the porch and looking at the beautiful scenery. This cabin does not have scenery of mountains, oh you can see a small portion through the trees. most of the scenery was trees, I can see those at home. If you want scenery of the blueridge mountains don't stay here. The drive to the property was easy. No big hills to go up, I guess thats why there is no views. I would not stay here again. Some of the showers had hair in them. There was dust everywhere. There was water build-up residue around the rim of the toilet where it hadn't been cleaned properly in a while. Some of the appliances in the kitchen were broken. I fell off one of the stools in the game room because it was broken. There was a millipede infestation on the bottom level. I had to call for a trash pick up and they only came the one time I called even though I would think it would a daily thing to help keep bears always. The cable box would not work in the bunk room on the bottom floor. The internet went out a couple times (could've been the rainy weather). I had to go out and get batteries for the remotes. I paid over $4500 for this cabin and regretted it from the moment I walked through the door. With all that being said the resort itself was very helpful and patient with the booking. When I did call them about an issue they were on top of it. Friendly customer service staff (even though maintenance seemed annoyed) and clean surroundings, very quiet. I would maybe book with Elk Springs Resort again just maybe not this cabin in particular." Being that we are in the middle of a pandemic we were shocked to see how dirty the cabin was. The shower curtains were covered in mold ( they did replace them), but in two of the bedrooms the dressers were never checked. Master Bedroom had a sex toy left in it and downstairs there were dirty clothes and underwear. The cleaning was very much less to be desired. Every-time we did call the management staff was attentive to send somebody up, but they never wore a mask once. We even asked them after the 1st time somebody stopped by to ensure employees would wear a mask when coming in and they assured us they would going forward. That never happened. This is our 4th visit to Elk Spring Resorts and by far the worst experience." However we discovered the sheets on two of the beds had not been changed prior to our arrival. Thankfully property management did work to change the bedding as requested. In the kitchen, the skillets were rusty and other cookware was worn out. The management company did help us quiet down the rowdy neighbors 3 out of the 6 night stay but we had to drive around late at night to get the names of the cabins where folks were making noise and partying and provide this info to the management. Elk Springs needs to improve its communication to renters about "quiet time" after 10PM. We also had a significant roof leak in the kitchen following a rain storm and management will follow-up on the roof leak. I would not recommend this cabin for families with young children. This was untrue. Because of how steep the grounds are the lowest floor is not wheelchair accessible at all from inside or outside. This meant one of our family members did not have access to the gazebo, hot tub, sauna, pool & ice hockey tables, or the theater room. I wish we had known this ahead of time so that family member hadn't been looking forward to the hot tub & sauna. I also wish they would have called the upper floor "soaking tubs" bath tubs. The term "soaking" leads you to believe that the tubs are oversized for soaking. They are not. They are typical, to smaller than typical bathtub size. Overall, the cabin was perfect for a covid family get together, while trying to avoid other people. It really is beautiful & spacious. The area is gorgeous as well- we were able to see snow capped mountains from our wrap around porch. Downtown Gatlinburg was a very close drive. I believe the theater projector played regular dvd's, so remember to bring your own! They supply 3 movies. The management company was very quick to pick up garbage every time we called them. Great location for when traffic gets busy during the seasons & you can take the backroads to the cabin and miss all the traffic. Once there, the kids & adults enjoyed the basement level with pool, air hockey, hot tub, sauna, & theatre room. There were nice flat screen tvs in every room. The management staff checked on us throughout our stay and were very nice. The cabin was clean for the most part. I think the comforters need an updating; especially in the master. The cabin had no skillet/frying pan, but we brought our griddle from home so no problem. I'm sure if we had told the management company they would have taken care it. Both family's can't wait to stay again. We were very pleased with Southern Philosophy & Elk Mountain. The out door space where you had to throw your trash out was not big enough for the amount of people staying at the house.For the price of a 5 star hotel I was disappointed on the service. I thought that at least the garbage should have been picked up daily. For the check procedure a lot was asked of you, putting all towels in one location taking the trash from every bathroom, running the dishwasher etc. If you have to everything yourself couldn't understand way the rental fee was so high. We had a problem when it rained really hard there was a leak above the bar near the kitchen, but we called maintance they responded very quickey to access the problem so it could be fixed for future stays.The only other problem we had was the tree stump in the middle of parking spaces it was very hard too see in a small car we ran over it and had some damage to the car. The cabin property was very clean and the check-in/check-out procedure is much more efficient and customer friendly than some of the other companies. The location of the resort is great and this cabin had spectacular views at all times of the day and evening. We generally prefer to be closer to the national park side (Ski Mtn area); however, we found the location of this rental to be only minutes from the main strip and by using the back road of the strip we could still enter the park with only a few extra minutes. We are already planning our next trip and will be using Elk Springs again." There were nine of us and the cabin had plenty of room for us all to have privacy, but, felt cozy and inviting. There were two teen age boys in the group and they thoroughly enjoyed having their own space downstairs with all the amenities it has to offer. The cabin is well furnished, kitchen has all the basics, & beds were very comfy. Only negative there is that one bed is a queen size upstairs in one bedroom, and the pull out sleeper sofa was uncomfortable, but they usually are. Overall, the cabin was clean and well kept. We would recommend it for the beauty of the cabin, the surrounding area and the amenities this cabin offers. Thank you Dan for your help in deciding which cabin would be best for us & the suggestions for things to do during our stay. My family was very impressed with the cabin. It was extremely spacious. The pool table and air hockey table was the best part. We stayed there in April and a Christmas tree was still on display that looked like it had been there for years. Lots of fake plants covered in dust were scattered around. Bathrooms and kitchens and high use areas were clean however. We struggled with the media room in getting a dvd to play (directions really needed to be somewhere accessible) because we couldn't get the sound to work and had to route it through the vcr (?). This took probably an hour to figure out. Also one of the chairs was missing a center section so couldn't be used. Because we had such a full house, someone had to sleep on the pullout sofa on the bottom level and it was AWFUL! Just a bunch of springs. When we first arrived it smelled like gas, very strong. We had to call the utility company to check it out and ventilate the place. It gave several of us a headache. The house itself is great and worked well for our needs. Just needs a few things attended to. I had stayed at "scenic views" prior and it was so clean and perfect that I would choose it over this unit in the future." We have stayed at other places like this around the smokies and this is our favorite overall, particularly since the cabins are not as tightly packed as other places. Our only disappointment was the AV systems. The TV's in the family room and rec room are severely undersized and outdated, no HD and in fact the rec room TV tube is going bad. We also ended up not having "movie night" in the home theater due to the poor definition of the projector and the fan that was so loud you could not really enjoy the movie. Watching TV was not the reason we were there so overall a great visit, but it would be nice to have better equipment for those evenings when you do want to watch a movie. A couple of small housecleaning and maintenance items needed improving which we left a note about: • Lots of dust bunnies under the master bed on the main level. • An extra blanket on the master bed would have been nice. • Some back porch lights were not working. • Rickety floor lamp in the dining room needed fixing or replacing. Overall, however, the house was very clean and amply stocked with dishes, towels and linens. We enjoyed the gas grill which worked very well. The location was convenient to local amenities. The view was good but not spectacular. We are spoiled a little, I guess, after previous stays elsewhere on the side of a slope with an up-close view of Mt. Leconte. With a spectacular view being one of our top priorities, we probably would not stay at Southern Philosophy again, but for anyone who is content with a good view and a quiet place, even though there are other cabins nearby, we would recommend this as a nice choice. Also in the middle of the road there is a stump from a tree, during our stay someone from another cabin actually hit the stump and did a tremendous amount of damage to their car, seems like this should be removed and paved over Besides those few things we had a very nice stay, and enjoyed the location a lot. However, I think some of the previous reviews I've read gave them a little too much credit for cleanliness and the state of the cabin. The cabin was very well kept in general, however it was not spotless. Dust on exhaust fans in bathrooms was rampant and corners of rooms had dust bunnies aplenty. Also, none of the tv's in the cabin are HD. They are all standard def co-ax cable hookups from Comcast digital adapters (which seemed to be having a lot of trouble staying functional for more than a few hours at a time.) And the biggest problem, the theater room doesn't have a cable hook up! So only DVD (standard def) movies are allowed in there with no option to watch TV (we were there for the opening weekend of college football and this was a huge disappointment especially considering the low quality of the other tv's). I don't mean to be negative - overall the cabin was very nice and a great place to stay in the smokies. We were just expecting more based on the reviews and self-promotion.
