After receiving the text that the cabin was available, I arrived to one worker picking up items and stating all he had left was to mop the floor but sent a text stating the cabin was ready. As I conducted a walk through, the floor was not swept, the lighting had months of dust hanging on it, the tubs were not cleaned out, trash and food from the previous renter was under the bunk bed and bathroom floor. The fridge was not wiped out, the counters were nasty, the grill was nasty with the bottom of the grill door just hanging. You can tell they did not change the sheets because they were turned backwards and one of the beds just had the top sheet thrown across the top of the bed. One king bed had nothing but a sheet on it. One of the shower curtains had mold all over the liner. On one of the sofas there was dried meat. Under every sofa there was trash and the insides of the couches hadn’t been vacuumed in months. Housekeeping came after my complaints and still didn’t address all the cleaning issues. They had yo come a second time and still...not all issues were resolved. The sauna doesn’t work and the hot tub was so over chemicaled that it was hard to breath when in it. The grill was so filthy we wouldn’t even use it. For the price of this house it should be pristine. Also, in this age of a pandemic, this house was far from sterile. So this is a great group cabin and I am very critical of vacation rentals. We had a total of 9 adults and 2 kids and anymore would have been a stretch. The upstairs game room bed is a futon. More than one person would have been tight especially if not a couple. Same for the dowstairs sofa and bunks. Not super roomy for two adults unless they are awfully close. PROS: Great theater room. We broght a karaoke mic. Sauna was nice Hot tub was nice Kitchen was well equipped and stocked Wonderful porch In resort, but no one could see on on porch or hot tub areas. PLENTY of parking! 7 cars! CONS: It is modern & clean, but not flashy like say Poolin' Around so I gave it 7/10. TVs need updates so you can easily stream. They are not smart tvs. Theater was a bit of a pain at first. Hot tub is too small for a 14 person cabin and needs to go a bit higher on warmth though it was good and not the luke warm sort. I like hot water and it was nearly perfect. Sauna....not as hot as it could be, but if you stay in awhile it does get toasty. I prefer the seclusion of not being in a resort, but for the resort it was fairly private even with another cabin next door and down the hill. You cannot see onto the back deck or hotub from the other cabins which is nice. There is a GREAT wooded and mountain view!! Lovely! Plenty of chairs on the porch. I would like to see some sort of small fire pit for smores and blanket upgrades. It was very clean and great for a group when you need an affordable cabin. I would do this one again." The main floor living room was big and comfortable with plenty of room for all. The cabin was very clean and everything was working well. The location was perfect for golf, zip lining, mountain biking, hiking Dollywood etc. There were plenty of nearby restaurants to eat the main meal at. We were real close to the arts and crafts loop so could do a little shopping on the way back to the cabin everyday. The kitchen was well stocked but never did find a cookie sheet! I have a few comments for improvement, though. We were supplied with one roll of toilet paper per bathroom. The instructions told us that, if we were staying more than 2 days, to bring an extra roll. I feel that the Resort should supply enough toilet paper for the length of time guests have reserved. Many people are flying in from other areas of the country and don't have the room to pack a roll of toilet paper or paper towels. Secondly, the towels that were provided in the bathrooms were the cheapest and thinnest towels we have ever used--worse than any hotel. After drying off, your hand could be seen through the damp towels. Thirdly, the bed linens could be upgraded. They, too, were cheap and made of cotton/polyester. A member of our party is allergic to polyester, so we had to make a trip to WalMart (30 minutes away) and purchase all-cotton sheets for him to sleep on. And lastly, there were no tissues provided in any of the bathrooms. The consensus among our group was that, while the cabin was great, for the amount of money we paid, the Resort should upgrade the towels and linens and provide enough paper products for the length of stay that the guests have booked. The upstairs loveseat and ottoman look very worn and unappealing. The livingroom rocker tore my sweater with an exposed nail. Another LR chair would have been nice. We found a child's size 5, black skeleton PJ shirt under one of the upstairs beds, lost by a previous family. All the bedspreads and pillows were obviously not changed or cleaned between families. For beds, I prefer all clean sheets and blankets wrapped in clean sheets. The extra blankets looked awful. Also, the towels were small and threadbare. We did wash them daily. The washer and dryer were wonderful with children in the house! We appreciated the clean water in the hot tub. Knotty & Nice is a fantastic home! There were 11 of us, and we all had our own personal space. Although it is close to other houses, the decks face the woods and it 'feels' secluded, plus there is a good view of the mountains. We loved the hot tub and the kids enjoyed the movie theater. It was in a perfect location for our active family... on the outskirts of Gatlinburg on the same side of town as Climbworks ZipLine, our Nantahala white water rafting on the Pigeon River, and our Walk in the Woods guide trip at the Cosby entrance to the national park. Turn left and you are just minutes from the hustle and bustle of downtown Gatlinburg. We absolutely loved our vacation, and Knotty & Nice is the perfect home away from home when visiting the Smoky Mountains! You can't go wrong with this rental property!" They have a warning sign at the entrance, that you may not want to leave. 100% correct, we truly regretted leaving after a 6-night stay. The Knotty & Nice cabin is absolutely amazing. Great setup for families with kids. We were very happy with the property- tons of amenities, plenty of space, great furniture & decorations. Also very clean. It really feels like a home away from home. Nice view through the huge windowed wall / off the main porch. Likely other cabins in the property a little higher up will have an even more amazing view. There are lots of cabins in the property, but doesn't feel like it when in the cabin. The location is relatively good, just east of the Gatlinburg 'strip'. If you plan to drive regularly to Smoky Mtns Park, you have to deal with getting through the slow Gatlinburg area, or go via the bypass. For groceries & supplies, I suggest Food City. It's very close, just be sure to get their savings card to save $$$. FYI, they sell TN fishing licenses there. Otherwise, there's a Kroger and WalMart in Pigeon Forge (20-30min away). My only recommendation for Elk Springs is to upgrade TV's to flat-screen HD, and upgrade the theater room to HD projector & Bluray. Ideally, add HDMI input to allow guests to connect game system, PC (streaming video like Netflix), etc. We'll definitely be back! Highly Recommended!!!" Our family of 5 had a wonderful surprise at the elk springs resort. We really had no idea just how beautiful the smokey mountains were let alone from our beautiful deck at the knotty and nice! Kids loved the lower level game room and theater room. I loved the view. Only 2 items of feedback - 1. no availability of child safety products - gates etc so please being your own! 2. The bedding and every surface was covered with large decorative pillows , heavy comforters, and other soft goods. I know these cant be cleaned between guests. The pillows and table drapes aren't necessary! I'd prefer higher quality linens and expected a washable blanket and no decorative pillows. Looking toward to a return visit to this wonderful spot!" Nov 01, 2012 - , Nashville, TN " It was very difficult to contact the office, a person! Knotty and Nice was a nice cabin. Set up well for a large family group in structure. Would be nicer if the pavement was continued to that road and driveway. Overall cabin was set up well but not set up for family cooking or eating. Kitchen was dark and we found 4 spoons in the set and a few extra serving spoons for 12! We had to eat chili with forks which I counted only 13 in a house that states sleeps 14. Loft sofa bed (futon) would only be appropriate for a child to sleep on since it was an "on the floor rollout". A real sofa bed, even and twin, would be much more usable. We had to limit towels and still had to wash daily. The cheap white towels would be OK if there would have been enough for everyone to use. We are used to better and more towels in our rentals. It was quiet except for the crazy Friday night party and I was not able to get thru to anyone at the office. We called the office many, mamy times from 12am until 1am and left messages then called the police after one hour of calling your contact #. No one ever returned my messages left that night. We are not used to staying where loud parties happen or are permitted. We are used to staying farther out for past 20 years and did like the closer locattion of this cabin. Glades Road is a nice area. With some minimal upgrades to kitchen equipment, loft seat/futon and towels this could be a fabulous rental! Better contact to office is a must if needed with problems like drunk, screaming neighbors too! I would not have expected that problem in a rental of this price range. It has been our most expensive rental with poorer amenities than we are used to having. If we return we would expect to see the drive paved, more silverware and towels and better phone office access.
