Visitor Reviews (137) Write a Review! "Renter Beware Just a heads up if you haven't already booked a cabin DO NOT stay at the Baby Bear cabin in Elk Springs, all the beds suck. You won't manage a good night's sleep because of the racket they make when moving/shifting. Feels like every spring is broken. Most uncomfortable beds I've ever tried to sleep on We also had: One bed you literally had to sleep sideways because it leaned Big black Ants in the bathroom Dirty floors, like nothing has been mopped in a long time our socks/feet were dirty walking across the floor Dishes were sticky when pulled out of the cupboard Lights didn't work in the hot tub Trash in the parking area when we arrived Sheets were like sandpaper Video game was broken Pool table/foosball tables weren't level Toliet handle was broken Leak in upper bathroom came through the floor in the kitchen (maintenance would look at it after we checked out, it would drip and leave a puddle in the floor every day) Personal items were found under dressers/beds so it's not been cleaned Floors squeaked so bad that it would wake everyone else up Toothpaste splatters on the walls around the sinks And the worst was the sleeper sofas were full of crayons, food, crumbs and dirty sheets when we pulled them out to use Housekeeping has the audacity to leave a tip envelope �� Only positives every time we called maintenance they were quick to show up, but what a hassle all week the area was quiet" Aug 17, 2025 - Carmen R., Edgefield , SC "1st time stay We've stayed at a couple of other locations. The second day there was a bat in the bathtub (alive) on the main floor, and they came and removed it but that night we got woke up with another one flying around in the downstairs bedroom and even though we called the 24-hour number at 5 am they didn't come until around 9 or 10. They kept telling us that they would send someone out as soon as they reached someone, but we were told later that they don't send anyone out until at least after 8 am. By that time the bat had hid. Luckily, we got moved into another cabin that was a lot better. I would never book to stay at the Mountain Magic cabin. We could hear several bats in the attic so it's obviously a problem at that location. The refrigerator at the location didn't keep things cold either. We told them but it didn't get fixed. It wasn't very clean. The 2nd cabin, bear cub was much cleaner and there were no issues with bats at that cabin. We didn't get any discount or refunds for the first cabin either. The only thing they did was move us into another cabin. We didn't get much sleep the first couple of nights in the one cabin. My comments/ratings are based on the first cabin that we booked. The bear cub lodge that they actually sent this review for was okay. It was cleaner and no major issues. I would recommend that cabin but not the mountain magic cabin." May 31, 2025 - , MOUNT HOLLY, NC "Great Experience!! This was our first time staying in a cabin as opposed to our normal hotel so we weren't completely sure what to expect. WE LOVED IT! The cabin was exactly what was pictured, just better. I will admit, it looked a little smaller in pictures than it actually was which was a pleasant surprise! Everything was sparkling clean, nicely labelled, and organized. The outside was just as nice as the inside, beautifully landscaped and manicured. We did have a nasty storm one night and there was a crew out in the morning cleaning up any small branches/leaves that fell. I received a call the morning after check in to make sure everything was in working order and as I had expected. I let them know, it exceeded expectations. We also looked at a map and noticed a couple back roads that lead us directly to Pigeon Forge, bypassing the weekend traffic of downtown Gatlinburg which was a nice surprise. There were a ton of little mom and pop shops that we would have never known existed. Overall, we had a wonderful experience and will forever rent a cabin from Elk Springs Resort before a hotel! Every vacation has some negatives and disappointments so I’ll share mine. 1, our vacation was too short in this cabin. 2, we didn’t see any bears. Now to nitpick (no impact on our stay) 3, one blind on the main floor didn’t open, but would raise. 4, the score tabs on foosball were broken upon arrival, and the arcade stick for “up” had to be in the right spot. We died a lot. Now for the positives. 1, the cabin is very spacious cover 3 floors which gives everyone a place to relax. 2. Just far enough from the strip that it is very quiet but also the short drive does not bother you. 3, the communication from the rental company is perfect. They reach out by email or text leading up to you stay, they contacted us 3 times while on our stay with a welcome text, a day or so later with a how is everything text, and the night before leaving with a thank you and instructions text. Perfect, they were not overbearing. If they called I don’t know, we spent most of our time hiking without cell service. 4, they had the hot tub clean and warming up upon our arrival. 5, all beds were comfortable and clean. 6, the pool table, arcade and fooseball table were enjoyable. 7, the theater area was nice to sit and relax while the kids wound down for the night. 8, the kitchen was equipped with everything we would need. Overall great stay. This was our first vacation that my wife has ever said “that was perfect, the only thing I would have changed was just one more day to sit and relax on the porches before the 10 hr drive home.”. (2) Only two small closets available for the entire cabin. Grossly inadequate for a four-bedroom cabin that sleeps 12. Also, there were no coat racks. (3) The wi-fi signal in the main bedroom on the top floor was weak and often would drop out completely. (4) The "home theater" was nothing more than a large screen on the wall in the downstairs sitting area. No theater seats or separate room. (5) Fireplaces inside were turned off and not available for use despite it already being fall. It would have been nice to use them on the mornings during our stay when the temperatures outside were in the 40's and 50's. (6) The floor in our bedroom was gritty with dirt and needed cleaning. (7) Although the kitchen and dining areas were good, we felt that other furnishings in the cabin were worn and should have been replaced. This was our fourth cabin rental with Elk Springs. The unique all around fireplace that stands under the great room was the most warmest place to be around while awaiting for dinner. The only complaint is the cleaning.. 1 of the bathrooms Smelt like urine and behind all the doors and all the baseboards it was just full of crud/dust and you could tell that they don’t ever wipe anything off they just do the basics nothing extra. I went to CVS and purchased spray bleach and other cleaner just to clean the house up some. Whenever I spray the tile with bleach in the bathroom that smell like urine it bubbled up which means there was Pee on the floor! The cleaning people need to do a better job because that’s just pathetic but the house made up for it I will definitely book it again." A few things would have made this a 5 star: 1. Clean dishes. Lots of the glasses, plates and bowls has old food on them. 2. Having a blow dryer, nothing like freezing weather and having wet hair. 3. If the projector worked and had a proper video of how to operate the video provided was not for the same equipment. 4. The down stairs was freezing unless you got up every few hours in the night to turn on the 1 hour fireplace timer. We were told to close the vents upstairs and that did not help. The Bear Cub Lodge cabin needs a lot of TLC! We paid for a Ritz Carlton experience and got a Motel 6 experience. Floors squeaked, beds squeaked and were horrible, TV's were Sceptre a Walmart brand, one TV did not work and one had lines down the center of the picture. The laminate on the kitchen island was peeling. Lighting was horrible. The cleanliness upon check-in was poor at best. We called maintenance and they fixed a few things and the office was supposed to call us but never did. I really expect a partial refund! Willing to try another cabin. The pilot in the downstairs fireplace kept going out leaving the downstairs very cold (again, one of the main reasons we rented this cabin was for the downstairs game room). The cutlery badly needs to be replaced- blades were very dull and had pieces of the blades missing. The cabin was in a good area- close to both downtown Pigeon Forge and Gatlinburg. The cabin was clean and when we had to call someone about the downstairs fireplace they sent someone out (but again, the pilot kept going out leaving it very cold)." The only measuring cup had all the markings worn away, I literally couldn't use and I was hosting 15 people for many meals. The can opener was so old and took us like 30 min to us. Also there were no seasonings, no salt and no pepper. This was also very upsetting because never in 10 years of doing house rentals have these basic things not been included. I saw that people are threatened if they leave seasonings that they will be billed cleaning charges- this is ridiculous. People should be able to leave their seasonings so future people have the benefit of those, or the company should stock the house. Also there was barely any toilet paper, we had to go out and buy more, nor was there a first aid kit. For how expensive this rental is, it is shocking the management company would nickel and dime over salt and toilet pepper. Also the comforters are so thin they are like sheets, we had to call to get extra blankets. They did get those and a space heater to us very quickly though which was a positive. However, at a vacation rental geared towards winter, it is surprising the bedding was also so subpar. This house could use some real investment, it would pay off in the long run. The only negatives I have are some light bulbs were burnt out (we pulled some from other areas to compensate), the ice maker in the fridge was not turned on (simple fix, we just did not think to check) and the grill ran out of propane in the middle of cooking my birthday dinner and it took over 1 hour for a new one to be brought. The customer service representative was less than helpful but it all got taken care of. We hiked the property to get our nature in, the cabins are quite close together (not a problem for us, but if you have noisy neighbors that can be a problem for a quite weekend getaway). All in all it was a great cabin and weekend getaway, we are already talking about going back, just got to make sure to check the propane before we start cooking!" After looking at many cabins, we decided on Elk Springs and Bear Cub Lodge. We were called and told we could check in early, which was nice, especially with six children. Upon arrival, we found the cable to be out. I called maintenance and was told the company had been out that day, but was not sure what was going on or when it would be fixed. Then, we discovered none of the fireplaces worked, which took four different trips, and the propane tank was empty and we were grilling that night. When the children were ready for bed, we pulled back the sheets on one of the beds only to discover a blood stain on the mattress pad which could be seen through the sheets. I called the maintenance number, again, and housekeeping came the next day, but changed the wrong mattress pad and sheets. We tried to play a movie on the theatre screen, only to discover it didn't work. After two repairmen came, we were able to play a movie. During my last repair call, I was told management would be notified due to the many problems, especially the blood, we had encountered and a refund recommended. After we left, I received a telephone call from an employee, not a manager, and was informed a refund had been approved. I laughed at the amount since it was not even 10% of our bill. A special thanks to the maintenance staff for being very responsive and going so far as to check in with us just to make sure all our power, heat and water was working despite the stormy weather. Same great Elk Springs location, spotless condition, a very professional and responsive management team. The bear-themed furnishings were cute and we cooked a lot in the kitchen, which had pretty much everything we needed. They called me the day after we arrived and asked if there were issues--and there were a couple very minor maintenance things, which they took care of within about an hour. When I called for trash pickup, they were very prompt about that as well. Things to be aware of: there is no bathroom or bedroom on the main floor. This can pose an issue for people who have trouble climbing stairs. The downstairs master bedroom was so cold I couldn't sleep in it, ended up having to share an upstairs bedroom. And although this is a nonsmoking property, there are cigarette burns on the downstairs carpet and a faint smell of smoke down there." We had a couple of minor maintenance issues that were addressed very quickly. There was a strong fish odor in the refrigerator and we were told housekeeping would be by but they never showed. The pool table wasn't level so it made it difficult to play. Our biggest problem with this house was it did not have a bathroom on the main floor so it was difficult for my 78 year old mother. We didn't want to leave. The location was perfect! Food, gas, downtown etc. was so close and convenient. The only complaint/suggestion that we have is in regards to check-in/check-out time. Our check-in was at 3 and of course the cabin was not the easiest to find because GPS doesn't locate every land mark. So by the time we arrived it was 4:30 ish. Half the day is gone by now already and if this is your first time visiting (like ours) then you don't have time to do anything that Friday. Then Saturday comes and goes so fast you can't do to much that day because you have to get up so early on Sunday for check-out. As a customer you (we did) almost feel like you were cheated out of your money and a long weekend. Downtown Gatlinburg had so many shops and attractions we missed 95% of it because we had to get in bed early Saturday so we didn't over sleep on Sunday. I'm pretty sure other customers feel the same way especially those of us that don't live in Tennessee. It would be a better stay if check-out was at 12 (noon). We already checking in late so why would we have to check out so early? If we check in late then we should check out late. If we check in early then we should check out early. This is something to consider, you won't loose customers you'll gain because no one wanted to leave. Overall we really enjoyed our stay it just went by to fast but we are planning on coming back. On the site, it said that the cabin was suppose to have an xbox 360, hair dryer in every bathroom (3), it didn't have as many tv's as promised as well as "not" having a "master suite" nor was it clean. My daughter found a pair of slippers, empty water bottles under the bed as well as baby toys. Upon checking into the cabin, we found that the heat was not working. We called the rental place and told someone would be right out (1 1/2 hr later) He said it was fixed, however, never came in to check that it worked. We also contacted the rental place in regards to the xbox 360, tv, and hair dryer's not being in the cabin and told that they do not provide such things--and that was that. We have had a trip planned every year to gatlinburg for the super bowl. This was the most we have paid for a cabin so expected great things----we will never book again with Elk Springs. Very disappointed" Feb 05, 2014 - , Fairfield, OH "Bear Cub Lodge We have been to Gatlinburg many times but this was only our second time visiting Elk Springs Resort, our last being a little over a year ago (in cabin Finders Keepers). Once again we were very happy with our stay. The cabin is great and the bedrooms at Bear Cub Lodge are much bigger than typical cabin bedrooms which was a nice surprise. The bottom floor also has a theater screen which kept my 4 yr old son completely entertained for our entire visit. He actually cried when we left! The only real complaints we had was that the kitchen is poorly lit...we had to put 2 lamps in the kitchen to cook dinner because it was hard to see at night with the kitchen only having 2 small lights and the main floor/bottom floor air system could use a few more vents. In the cabins defense, we went at a VERY cold time of the year (January 5th - 9th), just in time for the polar vortex going through and we had to run the heater nonstop. The main floor stayed warm but the bottom floor was still very cold even with the heater on. We did run the fire place downstairs and that helped but we have a 10 month old baby so it was difficult keeping her away. The 2nd night we were there the temperature reached -2 so our pipes froze which also affected the heater and caused it to shut off during the night for the main and bottom floor. Luckily the top floor heater continued to work so we were able to stay warm. I called Elk Springs Resort around 9 a.m. and left a message with the desk that we were having problems and they called back within 10 mins and maintenance was there shortly after. They had us back up and running with warm air within no time. We were VERY satisfied and happy with the quick service! The temp only reached 17 that day so while we were out they came to the cabin and somehow worked their magic and got our water back on. It was quite a relief as we had multiple bottles that needed to be washed for my daughter. Overall we were very happy with our stay. Thanks! Jan 07, 2014 - , Miami, FL "Expensively Disappointed Upon arrival at the cabin, we noticed immediately that the pictures gave a false idea of the cabins location. The cabin is in no way secluded, it is surrounded by several cabins in all directions, no privacy. One of the reasons we chose this particular cabin was for the outdoor fireplace, which was broken. After several calls to the main office I was informed that they were aware of this problem 2 days prior to our stay, yet we were uninformed and were unable to enjoy this feature(very disappointed). Also, we decided to grill out our last night, only to find there was no propane in the grill and it was also very "unkept" looking. Shockingly after calling the main office, a replacement propane tank was supplied. The basement bedroom was never heated, which made our stay in that room quite freezing, even with fireplace and heat on. Overall we were disappointed with our stay with Elk Springs Resort and will not be staying here again or recommending it to friends and family.
