We chose this cabin as it was in the same location as our previous one and that one was no longer available through Elk Springs. First impression was that it was a gorgeous location and the cabin is huge. The seclusion is really really nice for privacy. Unfortunately we noted immediately that the kitchen floor was filthy with something sticky spilled everywhere. I cleaned it up and we let it go as a fluke. Heading upstairs I noticed that the duvet and throw shams had oily smears on top and white stains on the underside but the sheets were fresh and clean. Disgusted we removed the shams and duvet for our stay. Fortunately we didn’t need them anyway because it was incredibly hot every night and only in the sleeping area. Aside from cleanliness, which it needs a deep clean, this cabin needs some attention. The floors have soft spots, separation, and evidence of water damage, the water in the kitchen does not get very hot, the knobs on the range hood fall off on their own, the oven door doesn’t shut all the way, and some lights don’t appear to work at all. We just did not feel comfortable in this cabin. Strange things seemed to happen during our stay and multiple times I’d receive texts from Elk Springs about something we had just talked about privately in the cabin. Whether coincidence or not, it was unsettling. We enjoyed Gatlinburg and the Smokies, but wished it had been better at the cabin itself. Barefoot Mountain Resorts take the guesswork out of going up to the mountains and staying in a cabin. There are clear signs up the road and once you get inside the house, there are instructions and labels everywhere. We absolutely loved this cabin. It's extremely luxurious with high-end and high-quality electronics, appliances, and kitchenware. The housekeeper initially set up the house in a welcoming and cozy manner. It's inviting and we spent most of our time inside the cabin enjoying the kitchen, fireplace, jacuzzi, hot tub, arcade game machine, TV in the room, and the outdoor space. We were able to witness the most beautiful sunset, sunrise, and the smokiness of the smokies. An experience like no other. My husband and I are not the easiest to please, yet we were so happy and please that we want to come back. It would have been nice to have a 2-set of blankets & robes and a safe. Also, the fireplace was transitioned into natural wood, and because it was raining during our stay, the wood was wet and it was very difficult to start a fire, so I recommend a fire starter kit. The hot tub was great, the view beautiful. There were 2 drawbacks for me. The water is sulfur water. It smells and tastes different from the normal water that I am used to. I couldn't drink it at all. If you aren't used to sulfur water, bring bottled water with you. They have an expensive nice mattress, I believe it is a Tempur-Pedic, which was very hard and uncomfortable for me since I am not used to it. The cabin was very well stocked with everything that you need. I wish it had been a little colder while we were there because they have nice wood burning fireplaces in the living room and bedroom. This was a beautiful cabin! No detail spared. We loved everything about this cabin except for two things. The biggest thing was that the water smelled like sulfur (rotten eggs). I don’t know if there is a way to fix that, but it is quite off-putting. The other thing is that while the TV is a good size (we didn’t use the one in the bedroom), it does not have technology most people use today, which is the capability to sign in to streaming apps. (Netflix, Hulu, Prime, etc.) As a married couple with small children we don’t get to spend a lot of time watching TV/movies without interruption. We were hoping to get to watch some movies or binge watch a series. That didn’t happen. Those are the only negatives though. The cabin felt very homey. The drive up and down was not bad either. We just kept our van in low gear and had no problems. I will say depending on traffic you are at least 30 mins from the Gatlinburg, Pigeon Forge, Sevierville sites. That is something to keep in mind if you plan to go into town a lot. We did a few times and it was okay. We enjoyed our time just being in the cabin though. The kitchen was well stocked with dishes and cooking essentials. You will want to bring your own laundry soap and fabric softener though as there was only one small trial load soap available. Also, if you like blankets when you’re relaxing, bring your own because there are no throws anywhere. We actually went and bought a blanket. All-in-all, we would definitely stay here again." I have to say that this cabin has an ideal view of the Great Smoky Mountains, and the cabin itself is quite impressive. The kitchen is amazing, and as a male I need to point out that the master bathroom even has a urinal installed! However, a few disappointments my wife and I experienced just left us feeling very underwhelmed for a cabin named "Livin It Up". Our first day my wife cut her lip on one of the glasses that was in the cupboard, which had two large chips out of the rim that I didn't notice when I poured her drink. I found two other glasses that had chips and cracks as well. Later that evening we ran a load of dishes in the dishwasher and it leaked all over the floor. It took 3 days for a repair technician to arrive, and he blamed the problem on our use of Cascade pods. The machine documentation recommends Cascade, but the guy told us to use the Finish branded tablets (only two were provided) instead. My wife and I felt horrible and agreed to do as he said. We tried the machine again that evening, as instructed, and the machine still leaked so we just stopped using it. The worst thing about this cabin is the water. We expected it to be well water, but the water at Livin It Up smells just like sewage most of the time! We gagged just trying to brush our teeth the first morning. So we made the 36 minute round trip drive to the grocery store to buy bottled water. We had to suffer through daily showers, as the smell was overwhelming. The cabin also had several burned out bulbs, both inside and out. We had to call maintenance to get the gas grill and gas fire pit to work, as the igniter is broken on both, and the fire pit was out of propane. The maintenance guy provided a single butane torch lighter to manually light both devices, and it ran out of butane after 2 days. My husband and I stayed in Livin It Up for weekend getaway and a chance to relax. It was perfect for us and a wonderful experience. The cabin was amazing. It was clean, everything was in great shape and it had everything you could want. The views were phenomenal and our favorite part was sitting on the porch enjoying the view from the very comfy chairs or hot tub. It is private and away from the busy tourist area which is exactly what we were looking for as we mainly wanted to hike and spend time in the cabin. When we first arrived we were extremely pleased with every aspect of the cabin and its location. After a day in town we came back to the cabin to find a vehicle parked by the garage entrance. We did not see anyone and headed into the cabin to call the rental agency. The alarm system had been disarmed. Two dogs and a women came around to inform us that she was the owner of the cabin and there was something in the garage they needed to retrieve. This left us feeling uneasy considering we do not know who the “Owners” are and these people could actually be anyone. Elk Springs informed us that the owner should not have been there and they would follow up with them. The rest of the week left us feeling like the privacy aspect did not exist. Completely disappointing. This all could have been avoided with a simple call to my cell phone to notify us that the owners would like to stop by to retrieve a needed item." Booking was easy and the communication from Elk Springs Resort prior to the trip was extremely detailed and helpful. I love that they called when the cabin was ready with the code for the front door so we could just go straight to the cabin and open the door. The cabin itself was extremely clean, perfect condition and it smelled like a cabin. The kitchen is huge and has everything you need as far as cooking utensils, pots, pans, etc. We used the outside grill one day too, which was great. The bed was extremely comfortable with lots of pillows and good amount of extra towels in bathrooms. The decks are amazing with beautiful views and very comfortable chairs to sit and enjoy the views. The hot tub was clean and very enjoyable in the evenings. The reason why we chose Livin It Up was because it sits up the hill away from all the other cabins, and it is so private! No one can see you and you can not see anyone :) The cabin is about 25 minutes from Gatlinburg, so keep that in mind. We enjoyed beautiful hikes in the area and spend long hours listening to live music in Gatlinburg at night.
