Our only complaints are the master bed had one of those foam pads on it and it made it a bit hot sleeping and the balcony furniture wasn't the most comfortable. Of course the couch is a sleeper so it also wasn't he most comfortable but who goes to the beach to sit on a couch. It was good enough for an hour or so before bed. The kitchen was newly remodeled and the ice maker was good enough to keep us in ice without using the extra trays I always bring to supplement with. The unit location was very convenient and easily accessible. The beach service was very helpful although you had to reserve chairs each day as opposed to for the entire stay. The beach was clean unlike other areas within a 10 minute walk from the property. In the contract we had to sign, the property management company stated that "due to their high standards of cleanliness", the unit may not be ready right at 4PM. I'm not sure I want to find out what they consider a low standard of cleanliness. When we arrived, there was debris on the bed covers and furniture was visibly soiled. Our children insisted on sleeping on the pull-out. When we pulled it out, there were crumbs all over the mattress as if it hadn't been cleaned or used in months. That's also probably how long it had been since the floor was last mopped. After seeing the state of the furniture, we decided it would be best to wear our socks while inside the unit. Within 5 minutes of walking inside the unit, the gray soles of our socks were also visibly soiled. There were dust bunnies clinging to the ceiling in the bedroom like stalactites as well as dust caked to the ceiling fan blades. That doesn't even begin to speak to the general state of repair in the unit. The popcorn ceiling texture in the bathrooms was beginning to disintegrate with chunks of the texture missing. The shower drain was broken, the plunger was completely gone and we had to use a WalMart stopper to hold water in the tub for our children's baths. Not the end of the world, except for the general state of cleanliness in the unit. The metal ring around the tub drain was also broken. There was also no stopper for the kitchen sink. To wash dishes, we found the largest pot in the unit-which I am certain was made from the same gauge metal as our children's Melissa & Doug pots and pans set. I really wish I were making this up. The kitchen/appliances are outdated. Cracks in the walls, popcorn ceiling was peeling in places, the bathroom tub/shower appears to be the original since that building was built and it shows. It would also be helpful if some standards are included- such as dish soap, coffee filters, trash bags, etc. I know it was suggested we bring our own but for the cost of a week’s stay during a peak season, these are amenities that many other places include without expecting renters to provide. Cooking was a challenge as the stovetop elements didn't fit properly with the drip pans. This caused them to be tilted and loose. The sofa has definitely seen better days. Don't stay in this unit if you have any knee or back problems! But the perfect weather and the view from the balcony made it a great week. We tried Stewby's across the street because it was convenient. Food was delicious and reasonably priced. I woke up with a backache every morning. Also, there were no blankets. Just a very thin bedspread. It's not that I like it cold, but I like something to cover up with other than a thin sheet. The floor in the condo was sandy and not very clean, according to the dirt on our socks. Just a suggestion but it would have been nice to have a coffee table in front of the sofa. Also, I suggest they get some rugs for the kitchen and the bathrooms. If to catch some of the sand and water. Something easily washed after each stay. This would be helpful to the guest. Beautiful weather despite the forcast of a tropical storm. The staff at Brooks and Shorey were great as always. We have stayed in Gulf Dunes many times - but in a different condo than this visit. The condo smelled really clean when we walked in and was ready before the time they gave us to check in ! However, I was very disappointed in the condo this visit. TV in bedroom would not work. Did not really matter to me but it was the LSU football game weekend! Had to change the batteries in the living room remote for it to work. The kitchen faucet handle came off in my hand. Kitchen lighting was very bad and there was mold around the top of the kitchen cabinets and the vents had not been cleaned in a while. The bathtub had a huge crack down the wall between the wall and tub surround. One of the toilets shoots water up when you flush it so you have to put the lid down first! The carpet in the bedroom needs a VERY good steam cleaning or better, just replace it. Bedroom walls really needed a new coat of pain (not white - it shows every scratch) This condo just needs a "facelift" and some TLC. There were lots of clean linens and washer/dryer was new. Lots of good kitchen supplies also! Stove needed some attention also - one burner did not work without wiggling it and the other ones take a long time to get hot! The patio furniture was nice but need to be cleaned too! It really could be a cute little place with some updates! But the view makes up for anything else! It is just amazing!!! I love Gulf Dunes but will pick another unit from now on! Restaurants: Old Bay Steamer is within walking distance. Pricey but well worth it. No fried food here, hence the name. Floyds all you can eat shrimp for $10 from 4-6 pm is well worth it. Entertainment: Free passes for activities- although you get one per day- you cannot save them. We went snorkeling and saved $28 with the one free adult pass. It was a great time and everyone was very courteous and offered great customer service. The company you call to setup reservations is not the same company you use to go out on a boat. (verify reservations with company) When we arrived at our designated time, we found out we had been setup for the next day. They had room for us so we were able to go on the one we were there for. Destin is just over the bridge within 10 minutes without traffic. The Harborwalk in Destin has hours and hours of entertainment.
