Located at on Florida’s Southwest Gulf Coast. No bridges or causeways to the island exist, which ensures a relaxed, tropical vacation setting. The island resort encompasses a two-mile portion of private, pristine beaches on the northern end of Palm Island. Guests travel to the island via car ferry and park their car in our island parking area. Transportation is provided by our bell staff and golf carts are also available for rent for registered guests. My kids are now grown, but it continues to be a tradition that barring hurricanes, we meet every Thanksgiving at Palm Island. The beach is absolutely gorgeous, and the grounds and pool are amazing. We usually rent a golf cart and ride around admiring the beautiful shrubs, palm trees and wildlife. Most of the condos have been updated and are quite nice. Since it has not been redone, Condo 1313 is offered at a substantial discount. It really wasn’t much of an issue until the past two years. It is really becoming rundown but more importantly, not clean. The carpet was absolutely filthy with PET stains scattered throughout the bedrooms. Additionally, the cold-air return grill looked like it hadn’t been touched in years with a thick accumulation of dust and debris, and you could see years of crumbs adjacent to the range. The rest of the condo was clean. The WiFi was not working but they had us use the adjacent condo’s. Unfortunately, the reception was not great. We would have only a few recommendations: the beds are in need of replacement and are all really soft and sagging. The kitchen supplies need refreshing - there were lots of items missing or in low supply. The sheets: the resort changed to a blend fabric several years ago and they are not comfortable. We stay at least once a year and the beds need the high quality sheets you used to use - high thread count cotton is a big bonus - the blend being used are hot and uncomfortable. Also great to see Rum Bay back! We are there twice and it was improved even from the April stay. No upgrades. We stay in this unit as it is the only one that allows small dogs and has great views. Elderly parents (late 80’s) allows them being able to walk to the pool as it is close by. Dead bugs and roach feces under guest bathroom cabinet under sink. Feet get filthy from floors if you go barefoot. When booking the unit in March of 2021 I requested an upgraded unit and the week of our stay in November, we received info about the unit. The unit is very basic and needs updating and refreshing such as fresh paint, new couch and area rug which both are very stained and worn. Bedding set is also very worn. I understand that it is a rental and not everyone takes care of things, but the reviews on this unit have mentioned these items for many years. The unit did not provide all items that would be expected for a vacation rental. The front door is glass and has no curtain to block those above from seeing directly into the unit. Although this is designated as a dog friendly unit, you would expect that it would be cleaned of previous renters dog hair and cleaned thoroughly. It was not. There was dog hair all over the floors and under tables and furniture. We also found dead bugs under furniture and on floors. The modem is locked away in a closet so we couldn’t get to it to reset it ourselves. We called the front desk who were suppose to be there until 8 but no one was there. We called the emergency maintenance number and he said someone should be on the island still and that there was nothing he could do. The villa was nice and I would stay there again. We have also stayed at two other off-resort properties in the area. We love the location of #1313; it's steps from the pool/ocean and close to the playground and front entrance. What we didn't love was that we could hear our upstairs tenants' at all hours of the day and night. The first couple of nights were quiet as no one was staying upstairs, but the rest of our stay we were awakened several times during the night as we could hear every footstep/flush -none of which, BTW, were the tenants' faults. They were just going about their own stay; they weren't obnoxiously loud. It's just that the insulation between the two units was next to nothing. We didn't love the outdated kitchen and master bath. The cabinets and counters were very old. To their credit they were in decent shape. The kitchen knives were dangerously dull. The hairdryer was supposed to be wall-mounted, but it was just sitting in a drawer, so I would set the base on the bathroom counter while drying my hair. A plus was the newer furnishings in the dining room and living room. But the unpolished brass sconces on the dining room wall are outdoor fixtures. On the other hand great highlights of our stay included crafts and show by Red Beard, visits to Stump Pass, hiring a boat to take us to Cabbage Key, and our daily visits to Coconuts. We loved renting the golf cart and bikes. All worked great. Coconuts' staff were terrific. Debbie, the concierge, was kind, helpful. The front gate guys were fine, but not nearly as friendly and helpful as previous years. The front desk staff took care of our check-in/out, but failed to even ask how our unit was. We worry that Palm Island is losing its luster. We have never visited the same place more than twice until Palm Island Resort. We will return, but maybe not for awhile as we weren't as"wowed" as we have been in the past. Palm Island is a special place. We hope its owners continue to care for it." Right next to the pool and also right on the beach. Woke up every morning and sat on the porch with a cup of coffee. The tenant upstairs was limited in their footsteps, but it could be overbearing if there was a large group up there. Floor joists are quite noisy as well. This year we were slightly disappointed with the villa we rented. Although we were told the unit had been recently renovated with new living room and dining furniture and tile floors the rest of the unit is in need of renovation. Some of the improvements are not costly. For example, the bedspread, shams and bed skirt are old in both rooms. The hallway bathroom did not have a shower curtain only the liner. The formica on some of the kitchen cabinets is peeling. The bathrooms are very plain with absolutely no decor. My sister-in-law, Ana Prats-Villa rented a similar unit, #1211, paid the exact same rental amount for the week and her unit was exceeding superior. This unit is in an older building. It is on the first floor. There is no insulation between the floors. We lost 3 nights of sleep listening to the people upstairs go to and from the bathroom many times a night. Even during the day, you could hear them wherever they went in the condo. It sounded like metal creaking...close to fingernails on a chalkboard. I called the front desk and asked if others had ever complained about this, and they said yes, plenty of people had complained, but there was nothing to be done about it. They suggested renting next time in the newer part of the resort or staying on the 2nd floor. They offered us nothing for losing 3 nights of sleep. I could list a few other minor not so good things about this condo, but they pale in comparison to losing sleep every night listening to the people above us going to and from the loo. We could even hear them every time they opened the closet doors in the master. A little bit of construction was going on in an adjacent villa, but I totally understand the need to do this in order to keep the property so beautifully maintained. We love the location on the beach and the safe, secluded feel. We were booked in a deluxe but when I arrived I discovered it was not beachfront, which was my request when booking. We were traded to a beachfront condo which was at the standard rate. It was not acceptable for the price point. No decor, very old beat up furniture, poor lighting, poor bed and bedding. I think the basic standard units should be updated enough that their quality is similar to a basic hotel chain. We would not stay in a standard unit again, or recommend it. The inside furniture and appliances are not new by any means, but we overlook that flaw because of the other amenities the unit offers; close to the pool, close to the beach, etc. If you ask my daughter, the best part of Palm Island Resort is Red Beard, the Pirate. If you don't know about Red Beard and you have children, you should book a stay at Palm Island Resort now. Words cannot describe the fun experience Red Beard brings!! Forgot to say... you are car ferried to the Island. Once you are there, a trip to the mainland seems to be a big deal. Our advice, bring everything you need on your first trip over (I mean everything including food, medecine, sun lotion, kitchen sink (lol), etc... Then just enjoy the experience." We stayed in that unit about 10 years ago and not much has changed. I never imagined that my view would include construction.
