Lake Padre is located on Padre Island and has a direct connection to the Packery Channel that provides access to the Gulf of Mexico. Lake Padre was originally part of the Corpus Christi Pass. That was when it was still navigable as a natural channel from the Gulf of Mexico to the Corpus Christi Bay. It ran north from approximately where the current Bob Hall pier is.

Lake Padre is the newest planned development on the shores of Lake Padre. This pedestrian friendly mixed development of single family homes, townhouses and retail shopping is strategically located with immediate access to the Packery Channel to the Gulf of Mexico for the boaters and a short walk to the beach. Access to the new Schlitterbahn by golf cart or boat will be available when the new canal is completed under Park Rd 22 in the coming months.

The Packery Channel was opened in 2007 to provide another link to the Gulf of Mexico that was much closer than Aransas Pass and was also intended to improve the water quality in the Intercoastal Canal. Lake Padre has a direct link to the Packery Channel and there are no low bridges to prevent sailboats from easily accessing the Gulf. The average depth of the canals are about 10' I have read.
