Laura's Lookout at Palmetto Beach, Avenida Mangle, Caye Caulker, Belize.
Completed in 2014 Laura's Lookout is a beach front property located on South Caye Caulker, north of the islands airstrip. Conveniently located only a short 5 minute bike ride or a 10 minute walk to the downtown area, the house and it's surrounding area retain the unspoiled, quiet nature Caye Caulker is known for. The views cannot be beaten anywhere on the island.
The interior layout is perfect for either a family or group of friends, with two bedrooms with queen beds and a full bath downstairs and a more private suite upstairs, with two twin beds that convert into king bed if you would prefer, again with it's own full bath.
We have added two futons in the living room for groups of singles who would prefer not to share beds. Additionally, air conditioning is provided with their own separate controls in each room. The living area features an open floor plan that includes a modern kitchen with a full appliance range, a washing machine area for your use, a dining area and lounge area with flat screen TV; a movie library and wi-fi are included.
Without doubt the very best feature of the house is the full length, private front deck off the living area. Commanding unbelievable views of the sea and the second largest barrier reef in the world (560 mi) Mesoamerican Barrier Reef, it is truly breathtaking and not to be missed. It is only accessible through a door off the kitchen, ensuring privacy for all, with two Belizean woven hammocks for afternoon naps, and plentiful comfortable outdoor chairs.
As you leave the house down a short flight of stairs, you first encounter the 35 x 15 foot private outdoor pool, available only to our guests in our 4 homes, sunken into a wood deck that respects the palm trees that were there before and many chaises for sunbathing. Turning the corner to your right around the house, you encounter the man made beach area, jutting 50 feet into the sea, this provides another area in which to relax and enjoy the sun, there are a couple of palapas on the beach if you want to avoid the sun and corn hole as well as ladder toss to entertain you. Finally, just beyond the beach area, you come upon the 300 foot dock. With three separate entrances to the water below, there is room to dock your boat (if you have one!!), 6 pods extending outward for more room and a palapa at the end of the dock if you require shade. Covered with chaise lounges, you would be hard pressed to find a better place on Caye Caulker to just sit and relax, or watch the incredible sunsets.
Behind Laura's is a tranquil palm grove with BBQ facilities including picnic tables and a giant Jenga game. Paddle boards and kayaks are available for free, Beer can be bought at the front desk by the bottle, the bucket or a whole case. You can also rent bikes and golf carts at the front desk or book tours with anyone of the many tour operators on the island for fishing, snorkeling, scuba diving or sunset sailing cruises, our staff are there to help. Bikes and golf carts are a great way to tour about the island...a wonderful adventure for most any age! We have children's bikes, child carriers, and cribs upon request.
Laura'a Lookout at Palmetto Beach has been fully designed with safety and security in mind. There is protection on all first level windows, there is only one entrance to the house, accessible from the pool deck, away from public paths. Additionally, we have an on site, 24 hour security guard.

"A fabulous week at Laura's Lookout
We just returned from a week at Laura's Lookout. Five friends from college celebrating our 50th birthdays! We moved from the porch, to the dock, to the pool, to Weezies restaurant and back again every day. Walking to town was a breeze and we didn't ever rent bikes. It was windy enough that we didn't use the SUP's or kayaks but loved that they were available at no cost. Staff were super helpful and swapped out towels and water when needed.
Helpful tips:
-There is sunscreen and bug spray that previous tenants have left
-There are a few rafts in the pool to use
-Massage booked through Weezies is wonderful
-Reports are that the futon is more comfortable than most futons
-Sit on the porch in the evenings and watch the lightening storms over the ocean
-Stay in Laura's Lookout - it's worth the extra $ to have the amazing view!

"Spacious home with ocean views
We loved our beautiful home with gorgeous view from our large front porch. Our family of 6 had plenty of room to spread out and cook and eat meals together at the large table. Communication was excellent from start to finish; very helpful accommodating staff. We could walk to several grocery stores within a few minutes and in to town just a few minutes longer. We love the island of Caye Caulker and the home. Only issue was no shampoo or hair dryer bit obviously not a game changer. Would definitely recommend."

"Gorgeous unit!
Bike rental should be included. $15bz/day for rusty bikes was disappointing. Otherwise the property is amazing with friendly staff. All furnishings are in great condition and comfortable. The sun towels were an appreciated item. It was nice having a washer in the unit. The tray of bug spray, sunscreen and aloe were very appreciated when we just needed a small amount of something, my assumption it was items left by other guests. Great to reduce waste too. "

"Month long getaway in Paradise.
I can’t say enough about my getaway to Belize. Laura’s Lookout is a beautiful home. I believe i5 has one of the best views on the Island. Staff were always helpful and attentive to any requests. They arranged several outings such as Cave Tubing and a Sunset Cruise. I loved the location. I would definitely return to Laura’s Lookout and highly recommend it to friends and family. "

"Laura's Lookout
My family of six stayed in Laura's Lookout for nine nights. The location is great as long as you are willing to walk 10 minutes / bicycle 5 min each way to town (which we found quite enjoyable), the room/apartment is really quite nice, we felt very safe, the pool was wonderful, and we really enjoyed our stay. I think this might have been a little "fluky" but the first day the WIFI didn't work, the second night one of the AC units failed, a couple of outlets in the kitchen didn't work, there were a handful of light bulbs burnt out, then in the second week almost all of the tiles popped up and off the veranda/deck. It felt like maybe the property was neglected a bit prior to our arrival. The ownership group was responsive to the reservation (and a one day blunder I made) on-site staff were good, they seemed a little under prepared but they did a pretty good job overall. All of that being said I would definitely consider returning."

"Paradise
This place is amazing and we will definitely be back. The house was very clean and the staff attentive. We were greeted as soon as we got there. We used paddle boards and went kayaking. The pool was kept clean, it was very quiet and peaceful, there is an on-site restaurant that was delicious. It also has a bar so you don’t have to go far for anything. "

"Best place to stay on Caye Caulker!
After seeing the whole island I feel that we got to stay at the nicest, best maintained, cleanest and best located place on Caye Caulker. Away from the center but in walking distance, close to a great restaurant, friendly staff, pool and ocean access, beautiful views, very clean and well kept home, great amenities (although no dishwasher) and well connected to local tourist attractions offered. The property managers took great care of us and made our stay special. It was perfect and we may have to come back for more of Laura's Lookout!"

"A little piece of paradise
Laura's Lookout could not be better situated. Overlooking the sea, the balcony is the perfect place to relax. The house is wonderful and have everything you might need. The staff at Velento are awesome. Special shout out to Don for helping us set up an intro dive for our son. Would definitely go back!"

"Amazing week at Laura’s Lookout!
This was our 4th stay on Caye Caulker but our first at Laura’s Lookout. We are already making plans to stay there next year. It’s the perfect spot with great accommodations - the view from the front deck, the pool, easy access to the ocean, comfy beds, a kitchen with everything you need to make great meals, and access to a sweet bar/restaurant if you want a quick meal or a drink. We’ve stayed at many rentals around the world and this is top 5, for sure. The management staff was great with communication too. Highly recommended!"

"Sensational sunrises!!
We had a great stay here! The staff were all super friendly and helpful. The villa was beautiful and the sunrises off the back deck really start your day off right. We loved taking the beach path to town everyday. We also stayed with a baby and they had a pack and play and a high chair waiting for us in the villa. "

"Best Place on the Island
We truly felt that this place and this unit was the best on the entire island. Everything from the staff, the amenities (we were so thankful for a washing machine!), the location, the bar, and the private dock were incredible and made our stay an exceptional experience. We felt lucky to be there and fell in love with the staff and people of Caye Caulker. Highly recommend renting a bike- it's the best way to explore the small island. The coconut mojito from Weezie's Bar is the best cocktail I've ever had. "

"Outstanding in every regard.
From the moment that Don picked us up from the airport to our departure 3 days later, we enjoyed ourselves thoroughly. The fridge was stocked with beer, and a nice 5 gallon water tank. The place was spotless. The beach front deck was well protected from the sun and the best thing about it was you walk down your back steps into your semi private pool. Bikes are $5 to rent daily and can be useful if you don't want to walk to town. "

Beautiful property. Quiet end of island. Easy access to all we needed. Unattentive management left us to our own devices for managing 4 days with intermittent power and water with breakdown in island infrastructure. Management failed to check in and try to help us cope. Part of the story but a lot to pay for now showers and no fans!!"
