Description |
Rocks Retreat is a privately owned beachfront estate with 335 feet of Atlantic Ocean frontage on 12 secluded acres. It is located along the ‘Gold Coast’ of Eleuthera on the Banks Road. It consists of 2 cottages, which are connected by a tiled patio. Both cottages are always included when you rent the property. It provides excellent value as a private, secluded, direct-beachfront estate in the prime Governors Harbour location.
The Main Cottage is a 24 x 24 two story structure with a broad wrap around veranda. The entire upstairs is one enormous bedroom with two queen beds and a single bed. It has wonderful ocean views from its many windows and two lovely balconies, providing cool breezes. The downstairs of the Main Cottage is a large great room with a full kitchen, dining room, and living area. The sole bathroom of the Main Cottage is on the first floor. It is a small bathroom and includes a tile shower. The kitchen area is small but adequate, and has been newly remodeled. There is also an outdoor shower on the veranda, which we recommend using.
The Master Suite Cottage is a one story spacious en suite king bedroom. It includes a sitting area, desk workspace, a double sink bathroom with a tub and separate tile shower. There is a nice veranda in the front and also a second outdoor shower.
Rocks Retreat is set back 100 yards from the ocean and includes the spectacular Culmer's Rocks that separates the north from the south beach. We have private access to both world renowned pink sand beaches, which are typically deserted. The estate is made up of primarily palmettos, with stately palm trees and other landscaping. The grounds are maintained by our gardener. You have 12 acres all to yourself!
Amenities include WIFI, air conditioning on the second level of the Main Cottage and first floor of the Master Suite Cottage, washer/dryer, and Sonos speakers. You can use the WIFI to stream movies and shows on our two TVs in the Main Cottage. We also have beach chairs and a cooler for guest use.
Pet’s are considered at Rocks Retreat. There is a $75 pet fee and a $500 security deposit for guests who bring pets.
If you haven't been to Eleuthera, you will need to understand that on occasion, the Bahamas power or water service will go out for periods of time. We have a backup well that can be turned on if there is a long delay. We do not have a generator. This is just part of island life.
For longer term renters, our housekeeper will clean every two weeks and remove the garbage. If you prefer more frequency, you can arrange prior to, or upon arrival with Marsha Clark our housekeeper and cover the additional costs directly.
Rocks Retreat is located on the prestigious Banks Road of Governors Harbour. Famous Tippy's restaurant is just a mile away. The town of Governors Harbour is a 5 minute drive. Governors Harbour has grocery stores, restaurants, liquor stores, two banks with ATMs, two bakeries, gift shops, and a dive shop. It has a nice little collection of 19th century homes and churches overlooking a picturesque harbor. You can buy fresh fish and lobster from fishermen at the town dock. Friday night Fish Fry in Governors Harbour is a street/beach party that brings together all the tourists and locals with food, drink, and dancing in the street. You won’t want to miss it.

"Great vacation at Rocks Retreat!
We had a great stay at Rocks Retreat! It is in a great location close to town, and the beach is one of the most beautiful we’ve had on the island. The house has modern updated furniture with comfortable beds. It’s very clean, air conditioning works well and had everything needed for cooking our own meals. Lots of space for lounging around and we loved the beach chairs, umbrella and floaters! The walk to the beach through a beautiful private path was short and really nice. Marsha the home manager was always quick to respond to our questions and came right away on the one occasion that something didn’t work. We would definitely stay there again! "

"Excellent vacation
We loved our stay at Rocks Retreat. Lovely Marsha made sure our stay was easy & comfortable. We loved having the beach to ourselves & the property is in a great location, quiet but close to everything we wanted. Highly recommend this property for a family trip!"

"Nice clean house in a private location
This property has two buildings - the main house (kitchen facilities & 3 beds upstairs) and the master suite cottage (single large bed - very comfortable - we slept here). It's a short walk to the beach from the house along a private path. The property fronts onto the beach near some large rocks that form a natural barrier. You can go down to the beach on either side so it's like having access to 2 beaches - since we were looking for seclusion we chose the side with fewer or no people. Everything in the house was functional that we tried (oven, fridge), although the AC remote controls were a little hard to figure out. Overall, a very nice place - we would definitely go back."

"Private Island
We had a fantastic experience at Rocks Retreat. The location on the island was convenient and centrally located. We had never been to Eleuthera before, but we can't wait to go back."

"Pretty Close to Paradise
This is the second time we stayed at Rocks Retreat on Eleuthera, obviously the first time was a good experience so we stayed again about 4 years later. The location is central to the island, located in Governor's Harbour with easy access to groceries and places to eat or get takeout from. The house is super well appointed with just about everything you could need and its location pretty much has its own essentially private beach on the Atlantic side of the island. beautiful sunrises and sunsets over the water, crystal clear water, and memories for the making."

"Great family vacation
What can we say, it was the perfect place to spend three weeks with the family. The kids loved it, we loved it. A quick stroll to the beach everyday, but having all that property to explore and birwatch was fantastic. Location is perfect, right in north Palmetto Point but feeling like you are out in the bush! The houses were well stocked with everything that we needed. All the appliances were in great shape, the beds were comfortable, and the furniture was in great shape. We couldn't have picked a better place to stay, and look forward to coming back. "

"Rocks Retreat privacy and comfort abound
My husband and I just returned from our 7th trip to Eleuthera. We enjoy trying different house rentals. Rocks Retreat ranks as one of our favorites. While it does not have full water view the path to the water is both easy and enjoyable. We have not experienced privacy like this home offers. There was not a single item we needed ( except food items) during our 10 day stay that was not available in the home. Decor is welcoming bed in master comfortable linens better than most all the beach needs. Best is the absolute privacy. Caregiver answered all emails quickly house was very clean. "

"Absolutely Perfect 7 Weeks in Eleuthera
We sold our businesses a few years ago and bought an RV to travel around North America. Before we picked it up we were surprised to find out we were expecting an addition to the family so we headed out in the van to get in what we could before we welcomed our son into the world. During that time Covid became a thing in our world so we locked ourselves in for a couple of years. During that time we decided we would book a vacation for a couple of months in January 2022 truly thinking the pandemic would be over. As time grew closer our parents all had some health issues including one with covid and covid was not letting up. We were back and forth on whether to go or not but in the end we went for it. We could not have made a better decision. Kristin booked us the absolute perfect place for our family and friends to enjoy. The property was insanely private with us all enjoying outdoor showers daily and basically the most beautiful private beach you could dream of. We did some fishing and went and saw sea turtles a couple of times but otherwise we were fully content to be at Rocks Retreat. Marsha who handles the property is an incredible lady and our son absolutely adored her. Thank you to all of you for making this experience absolutely amazing. "

"Solid Eleuthera vacation home
This is our 8th time on Eleuthera, and third separate rental. This house is nice and offers everything one would need to enjoy Eleuthera. The house is set back from the beach by about 100-150 yards, so don't expect to easily see the beach from the front porch. However, the beach and its unique "cove" geology are certainly awesome and worth the slight inconvenience of line of sight from the house. I do wish there was a welcome basket with some basic essentials like I've experienced in other houses. Only other slight was no TV (for watching football), but knew that going in. Overall, property was in good shape and had everything one would want to enjoy. The rental next door (on the rocks) had two families with lord of the flies-type kids that overran the beach (and rocks retreat private property) at times, but that is certainly not fault of owners. Marsha (manager) was responsive. Will likely be back ..."

"Amazing Property and Very Private and Secluded
We only stayed for 4 nights and sadly that was not nearly long enough. The house and cottage are spacious and comfortable and the 12 acre property is very private and beautiful. I could easily imagine that we were the only people on the island!

"First time back in almost a decade
We had an amazing vacation and Rocks Retreat was the perfect place to stay! The house and guest cottage are beautiful, clean and exactly as described, minus the beach chairs that we thought would be there but we’re not. The property housekeeper met us there and offered 2 of her own chairs and an umbrella which was very kind. Definitely necessary~the sun is intense! The walk to the beach is short and the cove and stretch of private beach is a slice of paradise! We cannot wait to be back!!!"

"Very Relaxing
Well, first I want to thank Marsha (host) and Arthur (driver) for picking us up from the airport and making sure we got to the house safely.
Once we arrived at the house we realized that the place was bigger than we expected. There are two seperate spaces, one house for the master bedroom w/bath and side living room, then the main house that was two story. The main house had a living room, breakfast area, kitchen, bath on the first floor. The second story was an open bay concept with 4 beds (2 of them queen) with their own spaces to store luggage and hang clothes.
We liked the private beach entrance, which was a path that lead you down to the beach. It literally felt like we had our own beach because it was so private. The water was crystal clear and it was a great place to be and stay. I would go back and stay at this home for sure because it had everything you needed, down to the towels and silverware, glasses. If you need a rental car, get to the house first and marsha will help you out with the rest, she was super sweet and helped out alot.

"Very Nice Vacation
The main house kitchen was very well equipped with high end knives and cookware! Appliances were so-so, but functional and in good working order. Beds in both buildings were comfortable and had nice linens. The grounds were well kept, and the walk to the beach was not too long. The beach was spectacular! Snorkeling and swimming were excellent. The air conditioner in the main house really isn't big enough to cool both up and down stairs. The air conditioner in the guest house/master suite is very good. I think this property is very nice and well worth the money. The caretaker, Marsha, was extremely helpful!"

"My kind of place, never wanna leave
Our 15 days at the lovely Rocks Retreat was absolutely AMAZING!! This property is beautiful and the cottages are so cute. The location is perfect. The secluded pink sandy beach is something out of a dream. Our daughter had the time of her life hunting for hermit crabs, land crabs, snails, and exploring with her goggles in sea. The houses are maintained wonderfully and the manager of the property is the BEST! She is quick to help and solve any issue. Our family would definitely recommend Rocks Retreat to friends and family. We are looking forward to visiting again soon. Thank you for a most memorable vacation. My kind of place, never wanna leave;)"

"Terrific Get-Away Place
Rocks Retreat is a perfect house or those who want to have privacy, and still be close to amenities, like food stores, restaurants, local attractions, and gift shops. The house is very well maintained, it was clean when we arrived, and Marsha Clark, who manages it, was always available and ready to help if we needed it. The city water system shuts down at times, but the house has a well that supplied as much water as we needed, with the flip of two levers. The beach is a short and lovely walk through a path lined with palm trees. We took long walks on the beach both ways, and met very few people along the way. The walk to Tippy's restaurant takes about 30 minutes, and the other way, to The Bougainvillea resort, takes about 20 minutes. Great lunches at both spots. Right at the foot of the path is a series of rocks, called Culmer's Rocks. They form a beautiful break wall for the ocean waves, making for scenes of spectacular crashing surf. At the foot of the path there is a lagoon that is great for swimming, for kids of all ages. Kim and Jason, from Eleuthera Vacation Rentals, are very nice to work with, business-like, and pleasant. We recommend Rocks Retreat to anyone who wants a quiet vacation, with opportunities to enjoy the island's beaches and other attractions. Thank you Kim and Jason, and Marsha and Arthur, (for switching the water supply one Sunday evening). JPB"

"Rocks Retreat
Definite pros and cons. Eleuthera is the most beautiful island and I think that that Rocks Retreat is on the most lovely beach of them all. Prepare to drink water that you can purchase, and for the running water to be unavailable at least once a day. WiFi is largely unavailable so no streaming. Food is outrageously expensive. Mo at La Bougainvillea can make anything you want just down the road. Nothing much to see aside from Governor’s Harbor. We tried. The house was roomy and comfortable and the outdoor shower overlooking the Caribbean was amazing. The property is well cared for and very beautiful. Overall, to stay on this gorgeous piece of land and cozy island retreat isworth the other inconveniences. The property was very clean. "

"Rocks Retreat
We enjoyed a wonderful experience at Rocks Retreat. The best part was the snorkling just off the Beach. We saw every few people on the beach in out two week stay. Eleuthera is not a tourist location so expect food items to be found in the local market or gas stations."

" Wonderful family vacation to Rocks Retreat!
We spent a week at Rock’s Retreat and it was amazing! Our family made memories that will stay with us forever.
Prior to arrival: Tuck (Owner) and Matt (Reservation Agent) were very helpful with all of the questions we had (food, car rentals, entertainment). They generally responded within hours to our questions, if not minutes! This was especially helpful while planning a trip with extended family.
Positives: - Beautiful home and guest cottage. Pictures don’t do it justice. - Private estate. - THE BEACH! The beach is about a 100 yard walk from the cottage. We were there every day. We hardly saw anyone on it for the whole week we were there accept for us. It was incredible! - Staff were kind and very informative.
Negatives: - None about Rock’s Retreat.
My wife and I have been to Eleuthera many times. It was the first time for a few of our family members. We always tell our friends and family Eleuthera is a ‘choose your own adventure’ type of vacation. The vehicles are not the greatest, the roads are rough, and there are power outages. But the island experience is not like anything we’ve had before. You won’t wait in line. You are not surrounded by tourists. The locals are kind. The food is amazing. We visited a new beach every day and hardly ran into anyone!
We used Trip Advisor as our entertainment app. We have checked out almost all of the Top 20 Things to do on their list. "

"Rocks Retreat
Great property and location on Banks Road. We have made many trips to Eleuthera but this was the first time staying at Rocks Retreat. It is just like the description so read completely! We loved it and will definitely consider staying there again (depends only on our number of guests next trip). Beach is one of the best around and very few others to share it with. Marsha was great and we only had one concern which was addressed within the hour so we could not have asked for better. "
Jun 18, 2018 - Eavan K., Lexington, KY
"Rocks Regret
The main house has zero bathrooms on the floor the bedrooms are on. The 2 flights of stairs to get to the "loft" bedrooms have different step heights so in the dark it is very dangerous traversing them as your minds eye is expecting the steps to be similar heights but they are not. I am an athletic fit dr in my 60's and the first night we slept up there I fell twice coming down but avoided injury by grabbing the railing bars. No people we were not drinking. lol We called the caretaker our first full day there to let them know I was going to use the bunkhouse to sleep in as the bath was on same floor, and the cleaning lady said she would have to charge us an extra cleaning fee. Better than a broken arm !! The water in the main house was so repugnant we could not take showers there. Obviously the well has not been cleaned and the rotten egg/Sulphur smell was so strong we could barely use the kitchen sink. The bunk house had a different water line from the street so we used that shower in that cabin. Unfortunately the bunk house had no sink so we had to use the sink in the main house to do the dishes. Essential oils under the nose worked wonders. Another thing is that the tile all around the outside of home has a polished glazed surface that is very slick if your feet or flip flops are wet or the tile is wet. The beach is a hike and the last 30 or 40 yards has crushed rock on it which you can not walk on with bare feet. You can not get to the beach from their property. You have to trespass on next door neighbors Ms Ruby's, property to sneak onto the beach. This review is not a surprise as we had both house keeper and property manager over the first day to show them our concerns.
Marsha the house cleaner is so sweet. We talked to her about all this and she said wow that's probably why the people who have been staying here this past season have not left reviews. That was a disservice to us and we did not want that happening to others. Sor"

"Perfect Vacation Home
This is our second year to spend 2 weeks at Rocks Retreat. The house and guest house are clean, charming and beautifully decorated. The grounds are wonderful – coconut palms and giant century plants. The location is convenient and the beach is fantastic. My wife and I are in our early sixties and we had no difficulty with the stairs to the second floor of the main house or accessing the beach. The rental includes new beach chairs, which came in handy for times at the beach. We are looking forward to returning again next year."

Great stay! Nice place great access to the beach. Close to town so if we needed to make a quick run to town for supplies it was a short drive. We loved the beach. The cottage was well appointed and clean. Can't wait to come back but next time for a longer stay!! We love Eluthera it is so "
