Welcome to Goodwind House, a spacious three-bedroom villa located directly on world-famous French Leave Beach, a pristine beach renowned for its pink sand and turquoise water. French Leave Beach is 75 yards wide and over a mile long, with only five houses on the entire length. Goodwind has an abundance of glass for sweeping beach and ocean views from all major rooms. Enjoy the shifting hues and gentle sounds of the ocean from our generous screened and shaded verandas framed by elegant stucco arches.
Goodwind house is located a mile from the town of Governors Harbour on historic Banks Road, the premier location on Eleuthera, famous for its grand estates. There is an excellent reef for snorkeling a short walk down the beach, inhabited by a wide variety of reef fishes.
Goodwind House has a large light-filled great room with 360-degree views. All the windows open to catch the ocean breeze, and there are six ceiling fans (no air conditioner in great room). The great room includes a dining area with seating for up to 12 guests and a complete wet bar with ice-maker. There is seating for fifteen in the living area, centered on an entertainment center with flat screen TV and a separate projects/game table. The fully equipped kitchen is open to the great room for those who wish to entertain while cooking. The spacious screen porch has dining tables with seating for ten. There is also a large hammock, beloved by the children. There is an open deck towards the sea furnished with four recliners with end tables between them, and nearby, a gas grill for outdoor cooking.
Goodwind House sleeps 6 in beds in its three bedrooms. All bedrooms are air-conditioned. The upstairs master bedroom suite has a king-size four-poster bed, his and hers closets, and a large bathroom with a walk-in shower.
Downstairs are two more bedrooms, both with king beds, and two more bathrooms, one with a walk-in shower and one with a shower-tub combination. There is also a laundry room with a washer and dryer.
Goodwind is an older home with dated elements and is awaiting a full remodel. If you prefer a new, crisp house, this is not the property for you. But it does have the best location on the island, directly on French Leave Beach.
Goodwind comes with everything you need to enjoy our beautiful beach. There
are six beach chairs, a sixteen by eight foot shade house , and plenty of
beach toys. The more adventurous can explore the nearby reefs and beaches in
our three SEA KAYAKS.
French Leave Beach is an idyllic, mile-long, crescent-shaped beach. There are only five houses on the entire length of this spectacular beach. The surf is very mild, protected by a large reef system that parallels the shore. The water on French Leave Beach is literally crystal clear: with no rivers or streams on the island, Eleuthera's seas are free of sediment and among the clearest in the world.
Tippy's famous beachside restaurant is just a mile away (you can also walk the beach to get there). Both offer fine dining and live entertainment. Other upscale restaurants within easy driving distance include La Bougainvillea Restaurant and Bar, 1648 and Pascals's at Sky Beach Club.
Goodwind House sleeps 6 in its three bedrooms. If you have a larger group, we have another house 150 feet away that you can rent along with it. Please inquire for details.

Cancellation of or changes to your reservation must be made in writing (e-mail or fax is acceptable). If you cancel more than 90 days before your scheduled arrival, 20% of the total rental amount will retained by Homeowner and the balance refunded to you. If you cancel 90 days or less before your arrival, 100% of your total rental fee will be retained by Homeowner. No-shows, late arrivals, or early departure for any reason, including but not limited to inclement weather or illness, are non-refundable. Homeowner recommends trip insurance to protect Renter against loss from such events.

The house was beautiful however the water was out for 4 of the 7 days we were there. We were unable to shower, cook, clean, and it ultimately became a hygiene issue. The wifi also did not work adequately and frequently went out preventing several of us from being able to work remotely. "

"Spectacular spot!
What a fantastic spot! French Leave Beach is gorgeous, and the house is beautifully situated. The screened-in porch was great for enjoying the outdoors without bugs or too much sun. The house is nicely furnished, the beds are comfortable, and the house is well stocked with linens. The home has not been remodeled and definitely needs many repairs and better upkeep. However, the manager was very responsive and quickly got things up and running when the generator and Wifi went on the fritz. Overall, we loved our stay in Governor's Harbor!"

"Ultimate Get Away
Beautiful beaches, people, chef, food, weather, car rental (thank you Naaman). The Goodwind House is in a perfect place, the layout of the house is great. Quiet for the bedrooms, main house and screened in porch perfect. The beds were comfortable. Boogie boards and kayaks fun. We have been to the island 5 times and plan to return. The downside of this property was the OUTDATED pictures, the house was dirty and the bathroom moldy. We scrubbed, took all the dishes/silverware/pots/pans out & washed them and CLEANED the drawers and cabinets. Opened up windows by hand(handles broken), traded screens that were torn with ones that were not. Bought(and left) a shovel so we could dig out the hut on the beach. Pictures need to be updated every 5yrs so you get a realistic pic of what you are renting. Owners and rental company need to do this. "

"Great location, great beach
The location of Goodwin House is amazing. The property caretaker, Daniel, was so helpful and always went above and beyond. The house, sadly, is in need of so much updating and repairs. It could be a beautiful place but sadly, it is dated and needs help. Kitchen cabinets would literally fall off when we tried to open them. The tiles throughout the main room have no caulk and no stability. The wifi is LTE, which is basically nothing. The TV is as small as a desktop computer monitor. Even the blow dryer in the restroom was broken. With all of that said, we enjoyed our stay because of the location. The two kayaks were fun to use and the loungers at the beach were nice to have. The AC in the bedrooms worked well but there is no AC in the main room or kitchen. This wasn't an issue for us in December, but in the summer it might be an issue.
As for supplies, there are a huge amount of beach towels, bathroom towels, sheets, and pillows. That was convenient. However, they only had one kitchen dish towel which we found odd and no bowls for soup or cereal. We had to buy paper towels, as only one small roll was provided for the week, along with aluminum foil, and other standard items - which isn't that big of deal, but something that might be helpful for the next family.
I think the thing that bothered us the most about the layout of the house is that you couldn't lock the doors to the middle section of the house. This is where the spiral staircase is located that leads up to a bedroom. We realize that the island is very safe, but when traveling with teenage girls who stay up later than parents, this was a little concerning as they went from the upstairs bedroom to the kitchen."

Our 10 day stay at Goodwind house and cottage was perfect for our family of 9, We loved the privacy of the bedrooms and the super large common area, living room, dining room and kitchen, and the close proximity to Governors Harbor. French Leave beach is spectacular and very private. The sun shelter is a perfect place to hang out, the snorkeling was good and the swimming superb. The bugs were a bit annoying at times but did little to diminish our enjoyment of the beach. We had a wonderful time at Goodwind House and would love to return."

"Lush+Crystal Clear Water=Blissful Relaxation!
The almost solid wall of diverse tropical plants around the home provides a lush, private setting. The ocean just beyond the small dune has a private 4-person palapa and only a handful of people along the mile-long beach. Soooo much better than crowded hotels where you have to race out at dawn to claim your chairs!
You hear the waves and the call-and-response frogs from your bedroom (we never used the AC; the ceiling fans kept us cool and with open windows connecting us to the outside rhythms). We stayed in the front downstairs bedroom and slept well. We didn’t use the “best” upstairs bedroom because of mobility challenges going up the steep spiral staircase.
The Great Room with multiple couches, chairs and tables allows expansive relaxing when rain comes through.
However, be prepared for an old home. There’s rust around some bathroom fixtures, tile work that’s been worn down over the years, cabinet doors that don’t fully close, missing drawer handles, and some walls cracked as the house settled over the years. The house had been closed up for awhile when we arrived; our first impression would have been better if the Great Room had been aired out for several hours in advance.
The Great Room and the bedrooms have tall windows that can be cranked open to provide glorious flow-through breezes, but check first to see if the window’s screen is intact; we had to leave about 20% of them closed. Outside, there were very few bugs, if you avoid dusk outdoors.
The kitchen is very well equipped, with more gadgets in the drawers than we could identify. Lots of spices available. We did sandwiches rather than full meals, getting ham and turkey slices at Burrows and rolls and bread at the bakery. That balanced the cost of $80 two-person lunches at Tippy’s and $100 two-person dinners at 1648. Tippy’s and 1648 were really, really good. Buccaneer’s was OK; the Sunset Inn would have been OK except for the clouds of flies.
