This turn-of-the-century, family, lake lodge is in the township of Barkhamsted, Connecticut. It is in the foothills of the Berkshires, nestled at the northwest bank of Connecticut's clearest lake, West Hill Lake. The owner retained the nostalgic feel of a comfortable antique lake home while updating it with state-of-the-art insulation and central heating. The original fireplace was of course retained as well. The architecture is in the style of Adirondack arts and crafts. Much of the furnishings are of that style as well.
There are four bedrooms each with direct access to a full bathroom. All four bedrooms open onto an interior balcony which overlooks the living room and a bank of windows. There are enough beds in bedrooms to make the regular sleeping accomodations total 10.There are more cozy nooks around the house with studio beds which, in certain circumstances can accomodate 4 more. Renters have the option of renting a completely separate apartment on the far end of the house. This apartment is not rented to other tenants if lessee chooses not to rent it. It is offered for rent primarily for tenants who need a ground level bedroom or just an extra private bedroom. The country kitchen, family room is spacious, as well as the living and dining area and library alcove area.
The old fashioned wrap-around porch overlooks the lake, a large party size dock, boat house, kayak rack, and a small, easy wade in beach. The property is woodsy and natural. This home was used as a bed and breakfast (B&B) so there is a bed and breakfast website which gives a wealth of information about restaurants and endless amenities in the area and lots of pictures. A floor plan of the second floor and the bedroom/bathroom configuration is on the "rooms" page. Sorry, there is not a floor plan for the 1st level. I can send more pictures. It is no longer used as a B&B.
There are plenty of other quaint New England villages nearby as well as woodsy walking and biking trails.
